The number four is a number and a numeral. It comes after the number three, and before the number five. In Roman numerals, it is IV.

In mathematics, the number four is an even number and the smallest composite number. Four is also the second square number after one. A small minority of people have four fingers and four toes, on each hand and foot, respectively. This proves difficult to count on your fingers. Four squared is 16, and four doubled is 8.
