Hello everyone. The meeting notes are from the themes review team discussion on May 10, 2022. The themes team meets second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 15:00 UTC.

1. Weekly updates

The themes team published weekly updates about tickets and HelpScout emails. Here is the theme statistic for the past 7 days. The most current stats can be found here.

  • 310 tickets were opened
  • 301 tickets were closed:
    • 289 tickets were made live.
      • 13 new Themes were made live.
      • 276 Theme updates were made live.
      • 1 more was approved but is waiting to be made live.
    • 12 tickets were not-approved.
    • 0 ticket was closed-newer-version-uploaded.

BlockBlock Block is the abstract term used to describe units of markup that, composed together, form the content or layout of a webpage using the WordPress editor. The idea combines concepts of what in the past may have achieved with shortcodes, custom HTML, and embed discovery into a single consistent API and user experience. Themes:  2 block themes are under review. 

2. WordCampWordCamp WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress. They're one of the places where the WordPress community comes together to teach one another what they’ve learned throughout the year and share the joy. Learn more. Europe 2022

WordCamp Europe 2022 will kick off on June 2, 2022. During the 3 day event, the contributor dayContributor Day Contributor Days are standalone days, frequently held before or after WordCamps but they can also happen at any time. WordPress 6.0 release candidate (RC1) is available. WordPress 6.0 is planned for official release on May 24th, 2022!

As you all know that WordCamp Europe 2022 is very near. It is a 3-day event. The first day of the event will be contributors day. It is designated for contributing to WordPress.

There are various areas or teams where you can contribute. Among them, you can also join the themes team and contribute. Based on your interest in contribution, we can plan and contribute to themes. If you are attending and haven’t registered yet, please register now.

Latest changes in Gutenberg + Themes: 13.0 release

Hello! This is the 79th roundup of theme-related discussions, fixes, and developments in GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. The editor improves the process and experience of creating new content, making writing rich content much simpler. It uses ‘blocks’ to add richness rather than shortcodes, custom HTML etc. https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/ coinciding with the 13.0 release.

The themes team published weekly updates about tickets and HelpScout emails. Here is the theme statistic for the past 7 days. The most current stats can be found here.

  • 356 tickets were opened
  • 366 tickets were closed:
    • 348 tickets were made live.
      • 30 new Themes were made live.
      • 318 Theme updates were made live.
      • 0 more was approved but is waiting to be made live.
    • 16 tickets were not-approved.
    • 2 ticket was closed-newer-version-uploaded.

2. Lesson plan: Review help wanted

The themes team is working on the Lesson plan for how to submit a theme to the WordPress repository. Feedback and comments would be greatly appreciated. 

Also, we’re looking for contributors who can help us to write some lessons related to themes and to publish in learn.wordpress.org website.

4. Follow up

Block Lock
We discussed whether the block lock should be allowed in the themes. The themes team discussed that themes can have the block lock as long as themes provide a mechanism to limit users from using the features. Users must be able to enable or disable using GutenbergGutenberg The Gutenberg project is the new Editor Interface for WordPress. Think ‘how are they doing that’ and less about what they are doing.
