Highland Landscape
5.0
It was absolutely first rate. Instead of hiring an architect, a contractor, a landscape architect, and a landscape contractor, Highland basically did it all. It was professional, extremely competent, and reasonably priced. The final result was beautiful.

KEITH WILLIG LANDSCAPE

The last time I hired him, he designed and installed sprinklers, lighting and the landscaping to go with it. He has a really good team, very efficient. The job was done professionally, quickly, and he had a lot of original ideas. I would use them again.

D. Garcia's Gardening

Dago was recommended by the landscape architect that we utilized. His bid was within several hundred dollars of another well established landscaper that we had contacted. We chose Dago upon our architect's recommendation as we were told that they had worked well together for years. We contracted for the work several months in advance and were pleased when he began exactly on the day promised. He and his crew were timely, neat and productive throughout the project. We also have dogs and we were easily able to work their schedules around the construction. There were no cost surprises as we moved forward and as he adapted his work to the real world issues which arose. He worked well with the architect and followed her direction completely.

Vince's Landscaping Inc
4.0
My yard turned out beautifully. The results exceeded my expectations. I would have given him an "A" rating except for the fact that the project took so long to complete. The project install began in February, 2014 and finally finished up July 11, 2014. Workmanship is top-notched. If you have got patience, the results are worth it. If there is a problem or issue, it will eventually get done. It might take weeks or months, but it will get done. It also helps to be persistent. I am delighted with the innovative and artistic ways the crew brought the architect's plans to life. Special props go to Dago who was great. If you have got patience, I would not hesitate working with Vince.

North Arrow Landscape Design
4.0
They were very nice. They were very good to work with. They came on time. I ended up going to another company because of the pricing and a little more experience; but there was nothing negative about North Arrow. They listened to what I had to say. They answered my questions.

SUE ODA LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

I called her and left a message. I stated that I had a scale plot drawing from my previous landscape architect and that I now needed an updated design. She did not have the common courtesy or business acumen to return my call.

Vince's Landscaping Inc
5.0
It is a contractor that does everything and they coordinated everything for me. They were easy to deal with and they work with you on your suggestions for the plans. I had an architect draw everything up for me prior to starting the job. Because of the holidays and the weather, it took about 4 months to complete all of the work. They were a little on the expensive side but the owner, Vince, was great to work with.

JEAN FOGG LANDSCAPE SVC
5.0
Jean was easy to work with. The first bid came back out of our price range, so he helped figure out how we could reduce costs using a different lighting vendor and cutting out some plants from the landscape architect's original drawing. He also referred us to a stamped concrete vendor for a new retaining wall, driveways, stairs and pathways. I really like the results and would work with him again.

DIRK MOYER LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT
5.0
WE HAD A VERY SUCCESSFUL COLLABORATIVE PROCESS WITH DIRK, CREATING OUR OUTDOOR SPACE. NATIVE PLANTS AND SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS WERE USED, AT OUR REQUEST. DIRK FOUND A CREATIVE WAY TO ACCESS A PART OF OUR PROPERTY THAT HAD BEEN ESSENTIALLY UNUSED. AS THE LANDSCAPE MATURES, WE CONTINUE TO BE THRILLED. HE IS VERY CREATIVE AND PROFESSIONAL.

Skyline Landscapes, Inc.
5.0
We contracted Skyline Landscapes to fully overhaul our ~5,000 sq ft backyard and are thrilled with the results. They followed our landscape architect's design flawlessly, and the results are gorgeous. A few specific things worth noting: - Skyline's bid was very thorough and covered all changes in the landscape architect's design (Note: Some other companies who bid omitted key details) - When Francisco (Skyline's owner) made suggestions, they were very well thought through, improved the aesthetic, and added substantial value to the final results - I appreciated that when we made changes, Skyline gave us an incremental work estimate, so I never felt like there were any surprises - They were very conscientious working during COVID. The entire crew wore masks consistently and we felt very safe having them on our property. - They were here and working every weekday meaning we never had to worry about if or when they were going to show up. This meant the project completed in line with estimates. Overall Skyline Landscapes were extremely professional, did an excellent job, and we would happily hire them again in the future. -Adam

Landcon Landscape Construction
5.0
Bruce is very easy to work with. He has an easy going personality which was a refreshing change from the other contractors we interviewed. Bruce also has a great vision for landscape design. We already had a landscape design, but Bruce massaged it a bit and we were very pleased with his recommendations. Had we met Bruce before we had the plans drawn up, we would have saved the money with the landscape architect. The main feature we wanted in our backyard was a pondless waterfall. The waterfall went beyond our expectations. The stream looks like a mountain stream and the soothing sound it creates makes for a backyard retreat. The two stain-stamped concrete patio looks amazing. The colors of the concrete compliment the river rock steps which were already in place. We also had a bench wall for seating and a raised planting area built with the sides lined with the river rock to match the existing steps. The fine workmanship on these features definitely adds to the beauty of the backyard. The patio cover was certainly a work in progress. As Bruce was building it according to the landscape architect design, we were not pleased with it. Bruce came up with some simple and cost effective resolutions that made it SO much better.

Reed Landscape Studios
5.0
Based on a general design by a landscape architect that called for several paths to run through our hillside, she and her team applied originality and sensitivity to the topology to create beautiful, curved pathways which we have had multiple positive comments on and we love. One of her team, is very talented with stone, and created several stone walls for us along the paths, along the driveway as well as used stone to augment other areas around trees, etc. She had many original ideas, including using two slices of redwood trunk to form a built in seat along the pathway. She used flagstone for our front patio as planned by the architect and designed a very charming pathway with brick set sideways in a pattern leading from our lower driveway to lower apartment. Irrigation incorporating 10 zones was well planned and lighting just perfect. We found it very easy to communicate with Christie and her team, she was flexible, competent, they kept the work site as neat as possible. Our questions were taken seriously and answered completely. We feel her prices were very reasonable, and sometimes we asked her to do tasks outside of the original plan.

FELIX LANDSCAPE
5.0
Felix Landscape has been our go-to landscape contractor for 10 years. We first worked with Emilio when he was recommended by the landscape architect for our yard redesign - a complete makeover including hardscape, extensive planting, irrigation and construction of a pergola and fences. Most recently, he pulled out our front lawn, putting down mulch along with building a tremendous new front fence and gate. He had many helpful ideas to make our vision even better. He is on-time, on budget and faultlessly honest. We have recommended Emilio to neighbors for landscape and hardscape work and they have been as pleased as we were. We value his partnership and most highly recommend him and his crew for your project.

LANDSYSTEMS LANDSCAPES
5.0
We put our project out to bid to four landscape companies. Two bids were immediately thrown out due to the high price. Landsystems and one other company had similarly priced bids. Ultimately, we chose Landsystems due to their bid process follow up, details in their quote/schedule, and project manager assigned to our job. Overall our experience was excellent. The project was completed on time, quick turns on punch list items, no major change orders (only had one $400 change order due to a specification change on BBQ). Attention to detail was excellent. In particular, we were very happy with the concrete work and BBQ. There are many companies out there that can dig holes and put in plants. We found Landsystems differentiated themselves by professionally managing a project from bid to completion.

S&L REMODELING AND DESIGN INC
5.0
I only have good things to say about my experience with S&L Remodeling and Design. I was a bit nervous going in as it was my first remodeling job but the team guided me along the way and answered all my silly questions! :) Well, these architects EXCEEDED my expectations. I wanted to make the bathroom of my dreams, like a spa and they helped me bring this vision to life for an incredible rate!! I was quoted by 6 contractors before them but none felt like the right fit until this home remodeling contract came along. They pay attention to the details and do such quality work. Raz anticipated issues that might arise and thought of things that we might need in the future. Thank you guys for your awesome communication, timeliness, and execution! I'll be back when it's time for the next project.

Landscape Solutions

I got Ana's name from a friend whose yard she had done (and I had admired). At our first meeting, Ana came to my house and spent about an hour and a half reviewing plans I had drawn up by another landscape architect. The plans were too expensive and Ana had several ideas about how to reduce my costs without sacrificing my wants. I hired her and had no regrets. She was at my home every day during the project (which lasted about 2 months) to check on things, meet with the plumber or electrician or city inspector. Her employees were punctual, respectful and cleaned up on a daily basis. I really felt like Ana listened to me and understood what I wanted. The final result is beautiful and we have had many BBQs in our new backyard!

MICHAEL CALLAN LANDSCAPE ARCH
5.0
Provided detailed drawings, redrawing them reflect city permitting requirements. Once I approved plans he sent them out to landscape contractors for bids. He continued to revise plans as changes arose.Michael listened carefully and developed a plan that met my many criteria including a fountain, fire pit, built in BBQ, etc. in a very confined space. He was always available to answer questions as they came up. The contractor he recommended is top notch and Michael worked closely with him to make adjustments as they became necessary. Michael was recommended to me by one of the top residential architects in Burlingame. He is experienced, professional and easy to work with. I highly recommend him for residential landscape projects large and small.

Adam Wooley Landscape Design & Construction
5.0
The overall results were terrific. Adam is a great guy to work with and I have high expectations of the contractors who work on our property. We used a friend who is landscape architect to design the wood and paving location which provided guidance to Adam although he offers this service as well. He provided improvements to our plans and improvised where needed. You can see our Noe design on his website. He built fencing around our stairs for storage, selected the plants in the yard with irrigation, did the stone hardscaping with the appropriate drainage leveling and did a fantastic job on the wood work with the benches, wood retaining wall and wood enclosure for the hot tub. Adam and his team are great and I would recommend them. He stands by his work and helped me a couple items after work completed.

VAN DE VOORDE ELEMENTAL DESIGN GROUP
5.0
This landscape architect has a great sense for the customer's preferences for the feel of a space, some feng shui thinking. They were very specific on well-placed lighting and where to get materials. They provided great info. on plants that will work with the design and ground/sun conditions. Be prepared to spend money on the design, specs., & drawings though, so you can have accurate job specs. You will save the money you put into this phase by getting job bids, with which Michelle will assist. Her end product is specific enough that you may choose to do some phases of the work yourself, as you know exactly where and how deep to place plants, irrigation, lighting, etc. It was a good value.

Hansen Landscape Contractor
1.0
In response to my call, Hansen Landscape started sending me emails advising me of all their great services. I requested they quote a price for performing a job designed by my landscape architect. Steve Hansen's email reply was "hi Ben our approval rate for projects that are already pre designed is almost nil. So at this busy time of year, we will respectfully decline from quoting your project at this time." I consider this rather a rude reply. Does this mean their bids are always too high/expensive ? I guess I will never find out.

Landscape Architects Near You

Landscape architects use your outdoor spaces as their canvasses, so picking the right professional to set up your backyard style is essential. Follow these landscape architects hiring tips to pick out an architect who will understand your vision for your home.

1. Learn About Licensing

In many states, landscape architects must become licensed before they can start transforming outdoor spaces into works of art. Check the licensing requirements in your state, and then ask any outdoor architects you're planning to work with if they're fully in line with the law.

2. Ask for a Free Consultation

If an architect is worth working with, they will want to know everything they can about your space before they decide whether or not your project is right for them. Invite any outdoor architects you're considering working with to visit your home, and ask them to survey your property. It's only after they've taken in all of the little details of your scenario that they'll be able to provide you with an educated estimate, and when they do give you an idea of how much it will cost to transform your outdoor space, make sure you get your estimate in writing.

3. Run a Background Check

Once you've found one or more architects who you feel would be a good fit for your project, ask them for the contact information of customers they've worked with in the past. Get the customers' opinions on the company, and then check Angie's List for more local reviews.
