The Time Zone Converter calculates the corresponding local times in locations of your choice, taking all Daylight Saving Time (DST) changes worldwide into account.

Getting Started

  1. Click on the search field marked Add a City or time zone... and enter the first location or time zone.
  2. Repeat this process to add at least one more location.
  3. Select a date and time. You can either click on the date or time field of any of the listed locations or use the slider at the bottom. The converter will automatically show the corresponding local times for all listed cities.

Additional Options

Removing a location

Hover your mouse over the location you wish to remove and click on delete.

Changing the order of the locations

Hover your mouse over a location and use the up or down arrow to move it up or down the list.

Show or hide UTC time

Enable Include UTC Time in Results to see the corresponding Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) for your conversion.

Show or hide time zone abbreviation

Enable Show Time Zone to see the time zone abbreviation for each selected location.

Finding a suitable time to call

To find a good time to call someone in the selected locations, first enable Show Holidays and Office Hours. A dot will appear next to the time field for each location, which changes its color depending on the selected time. A green dot appears for general business hours on weekdays; an orange dot is shown for weekday after-hours, weekends, and other days off; and a red dot is shown for normal sleeping hours.

Please note that this service provides only a general indication based on usual working hours.

Show or hide current local time in selected cities

Enable Show Time Zone to see the current local time for each selected location.

Show or hide time difference

Enable Show Time Difference to see the time difference between the city at the top of the list and the cities below it. The difference is shown in hours. A plus (+) means that it is later than in the first city, a minus (-) means that it is earlier. For example, +8 means that it is 8 hours later than in the city at the top; -4 means that it is 4 hours earlier.

Where the difference does not amount to a number of whole hours, the decimal system is used to denote the fraction. For example, 2.5 equals 2 hours and 30 minutes; 5.75 equals 5 hours and 45 minutes.

Click on Download / Export Results to copy, save, export, or share your results. In the window that pops up, you have the following options:

FAQ: Troubleshooting

Why are the times incorrect?

Although mistakes are always possible, it is most likely that a corresponding local time looks off because clocks change for Daylight Saving Time (DST). Not all countries use DST, and the switch dates vary, so the time differences between locations change all the time. Please consider this before sending us your error report.

Why isn't my town included?

This service includes all 5000+ locations in our database. Some of our services also include millions of additional locations provided by the GeoNames database. However, these GeoNames locations cannot be selected in this service yet.

The time has the wrong format. How do I change between the 24-hour and AM/PM clock?

Our system supports both 24-hour and 12-hour (am/pm) clock formats. To change the format, please go to My Units and make a selection in the Time Format drop-down, and click Save Settings.

Why do I have to enter the date?

Some locations switch between standard time and Daylight Saving Time (DST) every year while others don't. Every country has its own rules about when to turn its clocks forward or backward, and by how much. DST is generally observed in the Northern Hemisphere while countries in the Southern Hemisphere are on standard time, and vice versa. All this means that the time difference between any two locations is likely to vary in the course of a year. Our Time Zone Converters automatically take into account these switches and the varying time offsets resulting from them.

Why can't I enter the exact time?

If you use the slider to select the time, it is only possible to jump backward or forward in 15-minute increments. However, it is possible to select an exact point in time down to the minute by clicking on the time display, entering the time, and then clicking anywhere outside the highlighted area.

FAQ: General Info & Instructions

Can I also use time zones?

Yes, simply enter a time zone abbreviation into the search field.

Please note that time zones usually do not adjust for Daylight Saving Time (DST). This means, for example, that Eastern Standard Time (EST) is always 5 hours behind UTC, even when the US East Coast switches to DST and observes Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), which is 1 hour ahead of EST.

The only exceptions are the dynamic time zone designations, like Eastern Time (ET), which do adjust for DST. These can also be selected in the Time Zone Converter.

If you select a time zone that is currently not used, or only in few locations, a yellow exclamation mark appears next to it. Hover your mouse over it to learn more. You can click the icon to change this location to the corresponding time zone that is currently observed there.

Do you still offer the old version of the Time Zone Converter?

Yes. You will find it here.

How can I share the results?

To share your results, click on Download / Export Results. In the window that pops up, you have the following options:

  • Plain text output: Copy your results as plain text, for example, if you wish to paste them into an email or post. You can do so manually or by clicking on Copy to clipboard.
  • Shareable link: You can also share your results by sharing a unique link to the page where they appear. Simply copy the link and paste it into your email or post.
  • Download as text file: This link creates a text file showing your results, which you can save or share.
  • Add to Calendar: This option creates an ICS file which you can use to import your results into a calendar.

How can I print the results?

Click on Download / Export Results, and a pop-up will appear. You can copy the conversion details, paste them into another document, and print the results.

You can also click Download as text file to create a text file showing your results, which you can save or share.

How many cities and time zones can I add?

The maximum number of cities and time zones for conversion is 12.

Is it possible to convert a time to all time zones worldwide?

Yes, but you will have to use our Event Time Announcer.

How do I change the time?

Use your mouse pointer or finger to drag the red dot on the time slider under your selected cities or time zones. The time is displayed on the right side.

What do the colored dots mean?

They are designed to help you find a suitable time to call someone in the location. The dots change their color depending on the time you select. A green dot appears for general business hours on weekdays; an orange dot is shown for weekday after-hours, weekends, and other days off; and a red dot is shown for normal sleeping hours.

Please note that this service provides only a general indication based on usual working hours.

Can I save a default location?

It is not possible to save a location in the Time Zone Converter. However, if you have created a Personal World Clock, the cities and time zones you have selected there also appear at the top of the drop-down list for the Time Zone Converter.

What does the yellow exclamation mark mean?

The warning symbol indicates that the local time/time zone is currently not in use or it is limited to only some areas or locations, most likely due to Daylight Saving Time (DST). You can click the icon to change this location to the corresponding time zone that is currently observed there.
