MR. FRANK BALL

Chairman, Board of Trustees

Mr. Frank Ball's primary occupation is as a self-employed organizational consultant and executive coach who works with senior leaders and leadership teams to build greater leadership capacity within their organizations. He has been engaged in this work since 1995 and has clients in the private, public and non-profit sectors.

DR. MARY MARCY

Vice Chairwoman, Board of Trustees

Throughout her 27-year career in higher education leadership, Mary B. Marcy has developed major education reform and diversification initiatives, supported the advancement of faculty and students, introduced innovative programming, and enhanced the reputation and reach of the institutions she has served.

MR. DAVID CUMBERBATCH

Member, Board of Trustees

Mr. David Cumberbatch is a Senior Advisor for K-12 Solutions at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, where his primary focus is commercialization. He is also a Senior Advisor to Apogee Equity Partners and New Markets Ventures, and is a member of the board of advisors for Village Capital and Riiid Labs.

DR. LUCIE LAPOVSKY

Dr. Lucie Lapovsky, principal of Lapovsky Consulting, is an economist who consults, writes and speaks widely on issues related to higher education finance, pricing, strategy, governance, and enrollment management. She also specializes in searches for chief financial officers.

MR. JAVIER MIYARES

Mr. Javier Miyares is a highly respected academic leader with over 20 years of experience driving innovation and change in online higher education. This includes eight years of past service as president of University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC).

DR. J.D. POLK

Member, Board of Trustees

Dr. J.D. Polk is the agency Chief Health and Medical Officer of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) located in Washington D.C. He began serving in this position in November of 2016.

MR. WILLIAM ROBINSON

William G. Robinson, Jr. is the President of Broadgate Human Capital, LLC. which is a management consulting firm aimed at value creation through excellence in human resources. He served as Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer.

MS. ANGELA SELDEN

Member Board of Trustees, and CEO, American Public Education, Inc.

Angela Selden was appointed CEO of APEI in September 2019. Ms. Selden brings more than 30 years of experience in technology and technology-enabled services.

DR. WALLACE E. BOSTON

Member Emeritus, Board of Trustees, Former APUS President, and Former CEO, American Public Education, Inc.

Dr. Wallace E. Boston was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of APUS and its parent company, American Public Education, Inc., in July 2004.

GEN. ALFRED M. GRAY

Member Emeritus, Board of Trustees

General Alfred Gray (retired USMC) was the 29th Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1987-91. As Commandant, General Gray assisted in the formulation of national and international policy, and strategy. He also served as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

LT. COL. JAMES H. HERHUSKY

Lieutenant Colonel James H. Herhusky (US Army, Retired) was an integral part of the American Public University System for more than seventeen years, beginning in 1995 as American Military University’s first Chief Operations Officer.

DR. KATY E. MARRE

Dr. Katy E. Marre is professor emerita and former associate vice president at the University of Dayton. Her distinguished academic experience includes developing, coordinating, organizing, and reviewing programs and proposals dealing with issues within graduate studies and research.

LT. GEN. RICHARD G. TREFRY

Member Emeritus, Board of Trustees

Lieutenant General Richard G. Trefry (retired U.S. Army), served 33 years in active duty. He served as the Inspector General of the U.S. Army for six years under three Chiefs of Staff and Secretaries of the Army. After retirement, he served at the White House as the Military Assistant to the President.
