INCREASING HIGH RISK VETERANS’
ACCESS TO LUNG CANCER SCREENING

VA-PALS is a multidisciplinary collaboration between pulmonologists, radiologists, thoracic surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, nurses, and computer scientists to increase Veterans’ access to lung screening.

The VA-PALS implementation network is a multidisciplinary group of clinicians and computer scientists who share a mission to increase access to lung screening programs that can save lives. It entails a broad collaboration of experts within and outside the Veterans Healthcare Administration who have extensive expertise in the early detection of lung cancer.

As of 2021, more than 20,000 Veterans have been screened for lung cancer at VA-PALS sites. The VA-PALS implementation network is strongly positioned to provide life-saving screenings for an increasing number of Veterans as program capacity grows.

The primary goal of this network is to build safe and effective early detection programs to ensure Veterans are getting state-of-the art care within the VA. This goal will be achieved through diverse partnerships that include the International Early Lung Cancer Action Program, which has successfully screened over 80,000 patients around the world.
