  • I'm not a huge Royals or royalty person, but Queen Elizabeth II's Jubilees are typically fairly notable since even someone like myself, who doesn't go out of their way to consume media about them has heard of it. I left a message on the royalty WikiProject, which focuses on royalty related articles on Wikipedia, about the article and yourself. Hopefully someone can help you flesh it out! Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Peter Ormond, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Ruby Jubilee of Elizabeth II have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. All other images must be made available under a free and open license that allows commercial and derivative reuse to be used on Wikipedia.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 14:48, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

IP out of control, since Aug 18, 2021[edit]

Coming attraction[edit]

In the future, we'll need an RFC covering all the 'former' monarchy articles that had Elizabeth II as their only monarch. Basically a re-do of the August 2021 RFC, only with Barbados added. Gotta get'em in sync, be it Monarchy of country or Queen of country. I don't really care which, just as long as 'one' is adopted for all of them. GoodDay (talk) 05:55, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The RM at Monarchy of Barbados has been closed as no move, which goes opposite of the August 2021 RM. It's likely that the RM at Queen of Nigeria will be closed as no move, which goes along with the August 2021 RM. These two articles-in-question are basically the same articles - monarchies that had (will have) only 'one' monarch. So, why are we getting different results? Scratching my head, over the likely different outcomes. GoodDay (talk) 05:25, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think the August 2021 RM should be again opened. And if an independent monarchy existed in that country before, then parenthetical disambiguation of years (e.g. Monarchy of Nigeria (1960–1963)) should be used for the Elizabethan monarchy. Peter Ormond 💬 05:33, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, also Monarchy of Fiji needs to be split into two articles. GoodDay (talk) 05:42, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think it should be split into Tui Viti and Monarchy of Fiji (1970–1987). The content about Cakobau's reign is not so great, so I don't think it deserves a stand-alone monarchy article. It could be mentioned at Tui Viti. The Elizabethan monarchy could be covered at Monarchy of Fiji (1970–1987). Also, the Fijian chiefs still recognising The Queen as Tui Viti even after the 1987 coup, can also be covered at Tui Viti. Peter Ormond 💬 05:48, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. GoodDay (talk) 05:53, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Holy smokes, I think my big plea on November 4, got the ball rolling for the Nigerian monarchy article's name. Congrats, now 'many more' to go :) GoodDay (talk) 17:29, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Queen of Sierra Leone and Queen of Tanganyika are ready for a move. Peter Ormond 💬 17:43, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You're not alone[edit]

Not sure if it'll help. But, I went through a nervous breakdown that lasted for two months. If you look at my contribs history (this year) you'll know 'when'. Among my many phobias is my 'mortality'. Being an atheist, it's something that can be overwhelming. GoodDay (talk) 18:50, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Peter, all the very best to you. WP (although it can be frustrating) is to a degree a community. We become acquainted here and there. Take it easy. Errantius (talk) 13:25, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem on Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II and Golden Jubilee of Elizabeth II[edit]

Content you added to the above articles appears to have been copied from the BBC website and the Government of Saint Lucia website, neither of which are released under a compatible license. Copying text directly from a source is a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policy. Unfortunately, for copyright reasons, most of the content had to be removed. Content you add to Wikipedia should be written in your own words. Please let me know if you have any questions. — Diannaa (talk) 21:13, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Diannaa: Could you email me the thing which you removed from Golden Jubilee of Elizabeth II. Thank you. Peter Ormond 💬 21:26, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Content has to be written in your own words and not include any wording from the source material. One thing I find that works for me is to read over the source material and then pretend I am verbally describing the topic to a friend in my own words. Stuff should also be presented in a different order where possible. Summarize rather than paraphrase. This will typically result in your version being much shorter than the source document. There's some reading material on this topic at Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing and/or have a look at the material at Paraphrase: Write It in Your Own Words. Check out the links in the menu on the left for some exercises to try. Or study this module aimed at WikiEd students.
Please don't add copyright content to Wikipedia, not even temporarily for editing. Please do your amendments before you save the page, or use an external editor such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs and work on it there until you are sure it's completely original.
