VTV6 is a Vietnamese state-owned television network of Vietnam Television. Launched in 2007. It serves the youth in Vietnam.[1]

Although VTV6 is operated by Ban Thanh thiếu niên (Youth Department), several programs produced by Ban Sản xuất các Chương trình Thể thao (Department of Sports Programs Production, VTV Sports) are mostly broadcast on this channel since 2015, so it is also known as a live broadcast of sports events of VTV, specially Vietnamese sports events or major big events such as FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro, Summer Olympics, SEA Games,... alongside VTV5 and sometimes VTV3. VTV6 also produces many live television programs and special live show for broadcast on VTV1.

VTV6 channel was originally mentioned for the first time in the development plan of Vietnam Television in the period 2006 - 2010 with the original orientation to be a specialized channel for sports, in order to change substitute for VTV3 as the editorial team of this channel has started buying the format rights of gameshow and spent the primetime as well as most of the time on Saturdays and Sundays to broadcast entertainment programs to earn profits for the television network. At that time, teenage content was then oriented for VTV7.

With the General Director of Vietnam Television, Mr. Tran Binh Minh, signed the decision to establish the Youth Center on the basis of separating the Youth Board from the Department of Sports - Entertainment & Economic Information (which is the Department for Entertainment Productions - VTV3 - in the present day), this is also the time when the people working in the network together with the young people newly recruited into the Youth Center cherish to establish a TV channel as a space to exchange and listen to. thoughts and aspirations of young people. Starting at 20:00 on April 28, 2007, VTV6 - the channel aimed at young people - was officially launched. In 2008, VTV6 Youth Center was officially renamed as VTV6 Youth Department.

In the early days of its launch, the channel's coverage was very limited. The channel was tested on channel VCTV10 and then broadcast in analog on broadcast channel. It was not until April 26, 2009, that the channel was broadcast in the South, then officially broadcast nationwide on September 7, 2010. At the same time, VTV6 also improved the quality of content and increase the broadcast time from 12/24h daily (12:00-24:00 daily) to 18/24h daily (06:00-24:00 daily) from November 1, 2010.

On December 27, 2010, the Youth Department produced live broadcast of the 8th National Patriotic Emulation Congress on VTV1. This marked the Youth Department as one of the production units of important political and historical events of the nation on VTV network.

From January 1, 2013, the channel was increased broadcasting time to 24 hours a day. This is the last channel of the station broadcasting 24/24h daily.

From September 7, 2013, VTV6 became the second channel of VTV to be broadcast in HD standard (after VTV3), and the first channel of VTV to broadcast in full HD standard (since January 2015).

In 2015, VTV6 was broadcast with Dolby Digital Plus sound standard on VTVCab and on DVB-T2 terrestrial digital television.

On January 12, 2018, VTV separated the Children's Board from the Youth Department. VTV6 officially entered a new movement called "The Digital Generation 2018", deciding to aiming at the "digital generation" born between the year of 1985 and 2000. Since that time, television programs for children on VTV6 channel were officially transferred to educational channel VTV7.

Most young people nationwide love VTV6 because of its rich and diverse content. The channel is not only a bridge for young people of the digital generation, but also a channel that broadcasts sports tournaments around the world that VTV has copyright, prestigious football tournaments such as the World Football Championship, the World Cup, European football championships, German DFB Cup and multi-sport events such as Summer Olympics, Winter Olympics, Southeast Asian Games, Asian Games; football matches featuring the Vietnam national football team, the Vietnam National Football Championship and the English Premier League as well as the finalists of major and prestigious beauty contests such as Miss World, Miss Universe and others. domestic and international music and entertainment events are particularly interested and regularly watched by fans across the country.
