So, what is open source?

Open source refers to a program or software in which the source code is available to the general public from its original design free of charge. Ixis worked exclusively in Drupal for a number of years, becoming the UK’s leading dedicated agency. When we had honed our skills in Drupal to perfection and built one of the most diverse portfolios in the UK, ranging from enterprises to local government and third sector organisations, we expanded our expertise to include other open source platforms. This means that we can offer our services to an even wider range of businesses.

By choosing an open source product such as Drupal, WordPress or Magento, it means your budget will be spent on functionality and features rather than recurring licensing costs. With communities full of passionate developers, designers, trainers, strategists, coordinators, editors, and sponsors working together there are thousands of eyes on the code, keeping it secure and up to date.

Open source in the public sector
Ixis are right for you

Ixis are a technical agency specialising in open source development, hosting and support. Public sector organisations including Bristol City Council, Westminster City Council, Haringey Council, Thurrock Council, the Care Quality Commission, Bracknell Forest Council and The British Council trust in our ability to provide specialist technical expertise, agile development, consultancy and secure hosting platforms.

Our passion for open source and our G-Cloud accreditation are driving our work in the public sector as more and more local authorities, government departments, and non-departmental government bodies look to transform their digital services and realise the cost savings to be made by embracing the open market.

You don't need to be a technology expert

Read our illustrated 'Simple Guide to Drupal Open Source', for more information on the general benefits of open source and particularly the Drupal content management system for public sector organisations. It's available in a handy PDF download format as well as in print at conferences we attend.

Accreditations

Cyber Essentials

Cyber Essentials is a Government led scheme aimed at providing businesses and organisations with a set of technical controls to improve their cyber defences and demonstrate to the public their commitment to cybersecurity.

By gaining the Cyber Essentials certification, Ixis looked to ensure our policies pertaining to the handling of clients security were as robust as those applied internally.

ISO 27001

ISO 27001 is the international standard that describes the requirements for an information security management system.

By achieving accredited certification to ISO 27001 Ixis were provided with an independent, expert assessment that information security within the business is managed in line with international best practice and business objectives.

G-Cloud 10

G-Cloud is a UK Government initiative to encourage the adoption of Cloud Services across the whole of the Public Sector. Ixis was one of the first companies to be selected as a G-cloud supplier, and at the time, one of only three Drupal companies to join in the first round.

The transparency of G-Cloud, for example, the publication of financial transactions and open pricing structure, fits well with our core values and the ethos of the open source community in general. Public sector procurement has come a long way since the introduction of the framework and we are proud to have been a part of this transformation.

The clean, contemporary design of this website makes the promotion and customer journey both very straightforward... recommended as an example of best practice
