Governor's 2022-23 Proposed Budget

Governor Gavin Newsom proposed a $138 billion budget for DHCS programs and services in the next fiscal year. The budget for DHCS supports vital services that reinforce the state's commitment to preserve and improve the overall health and well-being of all Californians while operating within a responsible budgetary structure. Highlights include expansion of full-scope Medi-Cal coverage to all adults regardless of immigration status, CalAIM justice-involved initiatives and provider rate changes including equity and practice transformation payments.

California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal

CalAIM is a DHCS initiative to reform the Medi-Cal program and, in turn, improve the quality of life and health outcomes of Medi-Cal members. We will implement broad delivery system, program and payment reform across the Medi-Cal system, building upon the successful outcomes of various pilots. DHCS received approval on December 29, 2021 for both the CalAIM demonstration and waiver, effective through December 31, 2026.
