    👏 Congratulations to Cecilia Vicuña and Katharina Fritsch on their lifetime achievement awards at the Venice Biennale! Our relationship with both artists stretches back more than 30 years! We're excited to continue celebrating their influence in the art world and beyond.

    For the first time in almost a decade, two artists have been awarded the Venice Biennale's Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement award: Katharina Fritsch and Cecilia Vicuña, both of whom will be included in the biennial's main show this year.

    The mural has been housed on Rikers Island since the '70s but was relocated to the New Museum for the exhibition “Faith Ringgold: American People.” With the closure of Riker’s Island in 2027, it will be transferred to on long-term loan at the artist’s request.

    Created in 1972 in collaboration with women incarcerated on Rikers Island, the mural illustrates the impact women can make when afforded equal opportunities—particularly the potential of incarcerated women, who have been among the most neglected and demonized Americans.
