"Please note, I am basing this review on the last job I paid Pawlak for, but I've used Pawlak for all my plumbing needs since 2013 with relative satisfaction. This review is about customer loyalty. Before my daughters took off to college, my house had a bad reputation for backing- up and overflowing into my laundry room through the floor drain due to them flushing creative things down the toilets, and shedding their long hair down the shower drain. So Pawlak was out 1-3 times per year through the years to snake the lines. They also did some home improvement plumbing projects for me. So they knew us all well, including the dog and cat, and we knew them well. For this particular event, everyone in the house showered, shaved, brushed teeth, pooped, peed and flushed all at the same time the dishwasher and laundry washer were discharging thus sending about a 6' diameter tsunami of crap into my laundry room at 10:00 pm bedtime. I cleaned it up and ceased all flow for the night, and called Pawlak the next morning. They were very responsive, worked me in first thing that morning and spent about an hour there. That was a Thursday. But by Saturday night, the whole house was backed up again, and this time it was just me and my wife. I poured a drain cleaner in the line as recommended by Pawlak; that didn't do anything but stink. So I tried snaking myself with no luck. Monday morning came, so I called Pawlak, this time being told they didn't have time for me. I said "you were just here 3 days ago and I'm backed-up again, come and fix what you didn't fix." They were a little rude telling me they couldn't work me in for a couple of days. I said fine, I'll call someone else. So I called AJ Buerkle ... and wow, what an improvement!!! After seeing what he did compared to Pawlak, I was totally impressed. Plus their customer service, responsiveness and professionalism is outstanding. I was a new customer and they still rescheduled and worked me in. They spent well over 2 hours snaking, flushing, breaking away grease build-up and crud on the walls, and investigating all the way out to the manhole until the house was clearly flowing at max. I learned more about my drainage system during those 2 hours with him than I'd learned in 5 years from Pawlak. And interestingly, Pawlak thought the main discharge line went under the driveway to the street all those years, but it actually discharges 180 degrees opposite to a manhole at the back of the property. Pawlak recommended using liquid drain cleaners, which didn't work. AJ Buerkle told me to just hit the main drain hard with a 5-gal bucket of water once a week or so to give the lines a good hard flush. I've had no problems since. They charged about the same as Pawlak. About a day later I got the bill in the mail from Pawlak for $210. I called to express my disappointment and that I expected them to waive the $210. They said no, and that if they would have come out to re-snake, they would have charged me the same thing again. So long story short, AJ Buerkle is now 'my plumber.' Over the years I paid Pawlak over $4700 dollars. I paid the $210 bill for the last job and made it clear to them that I shall pay no more. So they lost a $5000 customer for $210.

"Called to find out rate. Got informed of an hourly rate. The date before got call to confirm the appointment and the work to be done, to replace 3 bathroom sink faucets. The date of the appointment we were informed that it would be fixed price per faucet instead of hourly rate. Because we had guests coming and it would have taken us another week or so to find some other provider I opted to proceed. When it was all done we were looking at over $150 more than if we had paid the hourly rate I was quoted. Additionally there was a travel fee which was not mentioned. I personally took exception on the travel fee because I can't imagine any plumbing work which would not include travel time. They should have at least mentioned it at some point during the initial call, the confirmation or the start of the work like they did about the fixed cost for replacing the faucets. Although happy with the work, do not plan to use them again. If they had properly informed me of the fees I likely would have still gone ahead with the work, but getting blindsided at the last second with unexpected fees is not something I look forward to when hiring a plumber.

"It went extremely well. Tim was very quick to return my call and came out the next day that I was available. He was very knowledgeable and made sure to explain everything as he went. He replaced the old steel pipe with PVC and also replaced the drain for my sink in my laundry room. He also glued together all of the joints for my condensation line for my A/C so they wouldn't leak anymore. I would definitely recommend them to anyone and will use them for any of my future plumbing needs.

"Jeff from the Company did a great job. There was a leak in the basement sink and Jeff explained the problem and initially repaired the leak. Due to the plumbing being very old, the leak continued and the next day upon calling, Jeff was back to identify and repair the other problems that needed addressed to fully repair the old sink plumbing. "We were quoted $329.16 to have the water heater sensor installed, less a $100 coupon that we had purchased on Angies List for $39. We thought that seemed a bit high but, proceeded anyway thinking we were already out $39 and this was something that we really wanted to have done. We were then quoted $908 to have the outside faucet installed. Except for having to drill through a cinder block wall, the job did not seem that complicated. The water line was running along an inside wall, and we had already purchased the necessary faucet. When asked why it was so expensive, my wife was told "because it is plumbing". We declined having the faucet installed. Although the technician was very professional and courteous, we would hesitate to recommend this company, because of what we felt were excessive prices being quoted. We also would hesitate to pre-purchase any services through Angies List without knowing what the total cost would be before the technician arrives. We thought we were getting a bargain price to check out a company that we could possibly develop a long term relationship with. Instead we felt we were overcharged and somewhat taken advantage of since we had already paid for part of the job through Angies List.

"The whole process from scheduling to service was great. They were at my house in less than 24 hours and were a little early. The tech, Ed, called and texted when he was on his way. We got a text with his picture before he arrived. They confirmed via email and text message with numbers to call to change or cancel. The price for the service call was lower than average for this area and he did the work quickly without trying to sell us anything.
