October 3, 1999 (1999-10-03) (Sunday) Vince Russo and Ed Ferrara, head writers in the WWF during its most successful time in history, sign with rival company WCW. October 5, 1999 (1999-10-05) (Tuesday) Thirty-one people die in the Ladbroke Grove rail crash, west of London, England. October 7, 1999 (1999-10-07) (Thursday) The United States Congress passed a managed care bill allowing patients to sue HMOs. The first DIY SOS episode is broadcast. October 12, 1999 (1999-10-12) (Tuesday) Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif attempts to dismiss Army Chief General Pervez Musharraf and install ISI director Ziauddin Butt in his place. Senior Army generals refuse to accept the dismissal. Musharraf, who was out of the country, attempts to return in a commercial airliner. Sharif orders the Karachi airport to not allow the plane to land. The generals lead a coup, ousting Sharif's administration and taking over the airport. The plane lands with only a few minutes of fuel to spare, and Musharraf takes control of the government. The 6 billionth person in the world, according to the UN is born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. October 13, 1999 (1999-10-13) (Wednesday) The United States Senate rejects ratification of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). October 15, 1999 (1999-10-15) (Friday) National Geographic Society reveals the fossil of Archaeoraptor in a press conference (the fossil is later found to be a forgery). The NRL excluded a number of teams from the Australian NRL Rugby League competition as a result of the Super League war. Excluded were the South Sydney Rabbitohs who successfully contested their omission in 2001. Other teams were cut previously prior to 1999, or forced to merge. October 18, 1999 (1999-10-18) (Monday) Russo and Ferrara's first Monday Nitro with them at the helm of creative airs. Goku first goes Super Saiyan for american audiences. October 25, 1999 (1999-10-25) (Monday) Golfer Payne Stewart, 42, dies in an aircraft accident. October 27, 1999 (1999-10-27) (Wednesday) Gunmen open fire in the Armenian parliament killing Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan, Parliament Chairman Karen Demirchyan and 6 other members. The New York Yankees complete a 4 game sweep of the Atlanta Braves to win their second consecutive World Series. October 31, 1999 (1999-10-31) (Sunday) EgyptAir Flight 990 traveling from New York City to Cairo crashes off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts, killing all 217 on-board. Roman Catholic Church and Lutheran Church leaders sign the Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification, ending a centuries-old doctrinal dispute over the nature of faith and salvation. Nerf Arena Blast is released by Atari, Inc. and Visionary Media, Inc..
