I have long said America is a nation that can be defined in a single word: Possibilities. In America, everyone should be able to go as far as their hard work and God-given talent will take them. Even to the Supreme Court of the United States of America. Photo by Lelanie Foster

When I made the commitment to nominate the first Black woman to the Supreme Court, I could see this day. I could see it as a day of hope. A day of promise and progress. A day when once again the moral arc of the universe bends just a little more towards justice.

We will miss Stephen Breyer. He is a patriot. An extraordinary public servant. And a great Justice of the Supreme Court.

Judge Jackson is a brilliant legal mind with a deep knowledge of the law. She has a judicial temperament that is calm and in command — and a humility that allows so many Americans to see themselves in her.

Judge Jackson brings a rare combination of experience and qualifications to the Court. A federal judge who served on the second most powerful court. A former public defender with the ability to explain issues of law in ways everybody can understand. A new perspective.

After more than 20 hours of questioning at her hearing and after nearly 100 meetings with members of the full Senate, we all saw the kind of Justice Judge Jackson will be. Fair and impartial. Thoughtful. Careful. Precise.

We will continue our security assistance and weapons deliveries to help Ukraine defend their country. And, together with our allies and partners, we will support efforts to investigate this attack as we document Russia’s actions and hold them accountable.

The attack on a Ukrainian train station is yet another horrific atrocity committed by Russia, striking civilians who were trying to evacuate and reach safety.

In addition to U.S.-produced weapons, we have also worked to facilitate the transfer of capabilities from our Allies and partners around the world. I want to thank the Slovakian government for providing an S-300 air defense system to Ukraine.

Since the outset of my Administration, the United States has placed the highest priority on delivering critical military capabilities to Ukraine so it can defend itself against Russian aggression. The entire world has now witnessed the effectiveness of those weapons.

Last week, I announced the largest ever release from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Today, the rest of the world is joining us — releasing 240M barrels of oil in total. This will expand supply for oil and gas companies. Now it's on them to lower prices for consumers.
