a salary growth way over what she, on the other hand, is willing to concede. I believe that 2.5% to 3% annual salary growth is being used to define that projected deficit. If only she would start with those figures in negotiations over pay.

Just notified that 5 colleagues in are to be made redundant (unless they can find another position in the college by mid-July???) Absolutely devastated. This is the majority of our programme and it has just been gutted for NO REASON by SMT

As part of our ongoing commitment to making savings through the Recovery Programme, following confirmation by Council, we will be holding meetings with 5 academic staff members in History, who regrettably remain at risk of redundancy.

This means they will leave Goldsmiths, unless they can find an alternative role within the college before the end of their notice period, which will be mid-July.

We want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to support staff through this difficult time. Nobody would have wished this to happen, and we have done all that we can to reduce the number of redundancies. The result is that fewer people are now at risk of being made redundant than was originally proposed at the start of this process.

Goldsmiths just sent redundancy notices to the GUCU co-President + 3 of the most active reps. Sadness, horror & anger....

I'm a postgraduate teaching assistant. In February I had covid and was denied sick pay as I was told I was a "casual worker". After informing my union , we managed to get HR to issue employment contracts based on previous commitments to end casualised work at Durham.

So, this information will be in a forthcoming email, and in much more detail, but here are a few thoughts on the misinformation/misdirection in the VC's latest version of her template response to colleagues writing to her about USS. A thread. 🧵

Akshata Murty is worth £27bn and went to all that trouble to avoid £20m tax. Thats the same as having £27,000 in the bank and dodging paying 20 quid. The greed is mind boggling.

WE DID IT: with a landslide margin of 1785–912, we are officially the MITGSU-UE!!! What started 4 years ago with a dozen students in an MIT classroom discussing the needs of graduate workers has culminated in this historic victory for student-workers at MIT. Now, we celebrate!

Excellent news. As I state in this piece, this ruling rightly brings nannies' employment into public view and finally affords them the protections and basic conditions given to other workers. Brilliant work by network.

Instead, we suggest an email to your line manager explaining the situation and stating your strike days - but *only* if your line manager contacts you directly to ask about your strike action. See our Weekly Local Update email yesterday for a template.

🚨Important information on strike reporting🚨 We do not recommend that staff complete the form that is being sent out by the University for reporting strike action, because we have serious concerns about its content. 1/4

Staff at our world-class universities deserve good working conditions and secure pensions. That is why, today, I have written to to ask for an immediate review of the Universities Superannuation Scheme and its recent management.

Things I’ve learned about pension scheme #1893 (thanks to and taking the directors to court!): bureaucracy costs have inflated from £38m pa (2007)to £160m (2020) ! We are paying for fancy offices & presumably some v high-end stationary at that price 😱

Post you ballot and potentially save hundreds of thousands of ££ retirement income. Don’t post it, or vote no, if you and your family can live without that money, your money, being cut for no good reason. Just saying.
