    waiting for the odds on annulment by end of 2024

    Pleased that we found an agreement in principle on a new framework for transatlantic data flows.   It will enable predictable and trustworthy 🇪🇺🇺🇸 data flows, balancing security, the right to privacy and data protection.   This is another step in strengthening our partnership.

    QMUL still refusing to pay staff who were on strike and have returned to work, unless they reschedule cancelled classes. Now 14 working days (unpaid) since strike & facing £0 pay in March. How is this ethical? Is their intent to force/starve staff into submission for striking?

    Day 3 at work since strikes, but y'all should know that staff at are currently UNPAID because QMUL is docking 100% of salary INDEFINITELY until staff say they are willing to reschedule teaching missed due to strike. Oh, and during this time my pension was slashed by 46% 😰

    Spent way too much time dealing with this yesterday. A serious problem with corporate cooptation of social movements or citizen action is the sheer distraction and time wasting from the work. Thanks to and others who have helped raise the alarm.

    the way that people now are trained to only use the Internet through platforms makes it extraordinarily easy to defeat the censorship resistant properties of Internet protocols. deskills them from even going to the Web.

    This report on how TikTok now works in Russia shows how a Chinese-style censorship regime might look there: instead of clumsy ISP blocks that anyone with a VPN can bypass, the app providers will carry out the censorship and or surveillance of users. cc

    Note that this seemingly doesn’t include electronic resource access even on-site (predictable due to licensing). Libraries can open to the public — great! — but digitisation (in the way it’s occurring) slowly closes them back up again.
