We recently had about 1150 square feet of porcelain tile installed on the main floor of our house to replace a glue-down vinyl floor we?installed in 2013 as part of a partial remodel. The glue did not hold up under?the normal moisture in our northwest Houston area slab, even though the first?installation did include a moisture barrier. We knew we needed a different?floor but were unsure how someone could get the vinyl tiles, the?float, moisture barrier and glue up so a new grouted floor could be successfully?installed. And we needed help deciding what would look good with all of the?walls, countertops and cabinets we had also paid to have redone in 2013. Jared at the Floors?for Living store on Louetta just east of Stuebner Airline Road helped us work?through the challenges of deciding what floor to put down and how to get a good?installation. Floors for Living provides a lifetime installation warranty,?which helped us select them over other companies we visited. The whole new-floor?process from walking into the store the first time to the finished floor was?both pleasant and successful. We selected a great tile that matched everything?already in our house; Jared picked a grout to match. The real key to the job was?the outstanding job done by the installation crew, Jorge and Johnny. They?worked for days getting all of the old floor and prep materials out to get down?to a clean slab to make the new floor installation work, including two days of?hand jackhammers. The finished floor has straight lines and is level. The grout lines are not quite consistent so there are some places where there is a shadow in the grout line, but the ?overall look is very good. The match with our existing cabinets, countertops and walls is better than the original vinyl tile.
