The adage “You get what you pay for” rings true with MF Construction. When we were in the market for a general contractor to build our two-bedroom/two-bath ADU in San Marino, we interviewed several general contractors. Mike Maman of MF Construction was one of them. Mike showed us several of his projects as well as his own custom home. We were extremely impressed with the end results. After reviewing several competitive bids, we selected Mike because of his 40+ years of experience in building high-quality homes. During the construction of our ADU, Mike was just a text or phone call away. He kept us informed of upcoming events and visited our job site almost daily, sometimes more than once a day. He was present at all 12 of the City inspections. Every step along the way, we noted the high quality of materials Mike uses from the Ganahl lumber to the thick insulation and roofing paper to the copper pipes and shower hot mop, and mold-resistant drywall. Mike uses materials which meets or exceeds code requirements. Everyone on Mike’s team is extremely skilled in his/her craft, many having worked with him for decades. Mike is old school and does not take any shortcuts. Along with high quality construction and materials, Mike is extremely efficient. Our ADU was completed in four months, as promised. Progress was made every day. From the rough work to the finishes, Mike scheduled his team members just in time which resulted in an extremely efficient and smooth workflow. Mike builds with his heart. His passion is infectious which inspires his team members to do their best work. The results are evident in the finished product. Our neighbors and friends are extremely impressed with the quality and build of our ADU. If you value a well-built home and appreciate attention to detail, you will not be disappointed with Mike Maman. You WILL get what you pay for with MF Construction

We selected Horizon Construction & remodeling in Fullerton because of their high rated reviews and we felt very comfortable with David Eskin the project manager. we thought he will be a good match since we will need to communicate with him on daily basis for the entire length of our remodel. He helped us design our new kitchen and bathroom and select materials while keeping up to code. we wanted to achieve clean and simple look, more space on our counters along with timeless design. The results exceeded our expectations. We love it

This my experience with Horizon Construction and Remodeling, and why I recommend them. This is the second time that I have hired a contractor. The first time was a bathroom remodel, and it was a disaster, so I was very apprehensive about hiring another contractor. We needed to remodel our kitchen, so I had no choice. I did my due diligence and research and called three companies to interview. All three I had no prior knowledge of or experience with. Out of the three bids, there was a high, a medium, and a low. After talking to them one more time I went with the medium bid company. That company is called Horizon Construction and Remodeling. It turns out I made the right choice. My experience with this company is the complete opposite from my first experience with a contractor. My Project Manager was Mark, who did an outstanding job of keeping the project moving quickly efficiently. His crews showed up on time, were professional and did quality work, from plumbing to electrical to framing to painting to cabinets all were done to my satisfaction. If something was not done to my satisfaction (which was rare), I just let Mark know about it and he would send someone to either redo or touch-up the work. Mark would visit the job site frequently. I feel Mark is honest and has his customer’s best interest at heart. There were a couple of times when he could have charged me extra money for items that came up during the project, but he did not. Like any project we had to make some changes along the way, and Mark is very willing to work with you to make sure that you get what you want. Mark will listen to your ideas plus he has many ideas himself. He helped us a lot with our kitchen design. They started my project Oct. 11, 2001. My wife and I were hoping to have the project done by Christmas. They had it done in 7 weeks in time for Thanksgiving! The inside staff is led be Enna. They make sure everything is ordered on time. They even arrange for inspections. They are very polite and efficient and responsive. We are doing our doors and windows next and we going to have Horizon Construction and Design do the work. I recommend Horizon Construction and Design; I give them a strong 10. Mark and Diane Kincheloe Fountain Valley, CA

Horizon construction & Remodeling remodeled/updated both my master and the main bathrooms, which were in their original mid-60s construction state. David Eskin and his team of tradesmen helped bring my vision to fruition. As with any project, once the walls were opened up, some revisions were required; based upon their expertise and experience, Horizon was able to provide a few suggestions and a few “tweaks” to address these revisions. I couldn’t be happier with the results! Both bathrooms are much more functional and beautiful! Horizon also did some minor improvements in my laundry area – again improving the functionality and looks! Note: Remodeling costs did not cover much of the material costs. I had already selected and/or purchased some of the building materials; I did research and purchase much of the remaining materials (tub, vanities, tiles). Horizon does have its own showroom, and could have provided these at an additional cost. However, because I already had a firm idea as to what I wanted, I handled the ordering of these myself

  • YAEGER SERVICES INC

Yaeger originally installed our AC unit about 10 years ago. Since then, we've used them exclusively for yearly tuneups. During a whole-house remodel project this year, our contractor noted that our ducts needed to be rewrapped in the attic. We knew to go to Yaeger. They were prompt and professional. They never try to upsell. We've recommended them to friends and neighbors as well

Our kitchen was remodeled by Mark Besnos and Enna at Horizon Construction and Remodeling. We chose them after seeing all the great reviews on the Houzz app. When we walked into their showroom, we were warmly greeted by Diana who made us feel very comfortable. Their product display made it easy for us to put our ideas together. Mark’s crew did a wonderful job. Kudos to his crew, they really worked hard. Joel Chavez was a standout carpenter/jack of all trades doing much of the major work and tying together any imperfections and any loose ends that arose with a great attitude, expertise, and skill. He’s quite an asset to Horizon. Antonio Garcia who did our fabulous backsplash and Tom Tzur was the electrician. Mark ensured that each phase of the project was done correctly and completed on time (about 8 weeks). We gutted and replaced our 80’s kitchen (10’ by 10’) including the small dining area. We kept the same layout but switched the positions of the sink, stove and refrigerator. Enna helped with all the communication and paperwork and scheduling of the inspections, payments etc. Thanks to Mark, Enna, and their crew, we have a beautiful modern kitchen with two toned white and blue cabinets. Lessons Learned: 1. Stick to your budget and have extra funds for unforeseen things because for sure there will always be something that will come up. Understand what is and is not included in your contract. Don’t just assume that everything is included. 2. Be flexible with your time. There is a general outline of what jobs will be done in order mostly during the weekdays but things may change with short notice. 3. Check that your materials/colors are in stock before you sign your contract. Due to the Covid and political environment, some materials may take longer to get or not at all. Some newer colors may cost more. 4. Look at your cabinet colors in every light. We first looked at an espresso-colored cabinet that looked like black in shade and looked light cherry colored under the full sun. 5. Know what crown molding you want for the top of your cabinets…having pictures will help. 6. Ask Mark if you are not sure of any detail or work that has to be done. Do not wing it…else any fixes may cost you extra. 7. For lighting such as chandeliers, measure everything. Use you tube to learn to measure your lighting fixtures. 8. Certain changes such as electrical, structural will require city permits and inspections. Your city’s inspector’s availability will cause delays up to one week. 9. Choose your grout color for the backsplash…apparently there’s a ton of them (we were looking at different shades of grey because white is too hard to clean). 10. Choose your door and doorknobs ahead of time. Check to make sure it works including deadbolt after it’s been installed. 11. Choose your baseboard style and size. 12. Choose your light dimmers switches. 13. Backsplash, one tile was an off color so be sure to inspect the backsplash, so if any tile is an off color you can ask to replace it with one of your other tiles, you will have extra tiles to work with. 14. Save a cabinet piece in case you need to do future touchups. You can go to the paint store to have them match the color

Southland gave us the best quotes for our Heat/AC unit replace. They also told us about rebates from Los Angeles (other businesses we contacted did not mention this). Their crew were professional and worked hard. We especially appreciate the care of Nick and Elbert from Southland. The unit went up in a day and looks great (and works very well, too). We are grateful to Southland for the good experience and excellent customer service. Thank you

Avi and his team were fabulous. At the beginning of the process, he was the only contractor that we had spoken to that even mentioned the abatement process and how it might affect us. He was personable and friendly and made sure our need to live in the house during renovation was addressed. He stopped by regularly and had chats with us making sure we were happy with the process. Avi made sure that we knew that something might not be the best idea but if we truly wanted it he would do it. We did the kitchen, the master bedroom, master bathroom, guest bathroom, all windows, all doors including the front and garage doors. It was a huge undertaking but what a transformation. We were first time home remodelers and they walked us through every aspect of the process. When the unexpected happened, they were up front and let us know. The construction team under Luis were fabulous. We would swear Luis was a magician, the kinds of things he could get done on the spot were amazing. Definitely a man of many skills. The crew were respectful and friendly. They made sure everything was clean and livable at the end of each day. Also Joyce, the office coordinator, was awesome and we had a text thread going with her and Avi the whole time. All the permits were obtained in the proper manner and everything was done according to safety regulations. We are thrilled with all of our new home and highly recommend Finesse Remodeling and Consulting for all your interior remodeling needs
