Workers seemed professional,. but we ended up with a leak in one bathroom. It took 3 tries to fix that leak (caused - we think - by the power washing since we had survived the heavy rains of winter 2010). Roof looked good, but we needed the leaks fixed. It was hard to reach Sam Kennedy, and to get him to get to the necessary fix. Happy to report that more than a year later, we seem to be free from leaks.

I've had this wall/roof leak problem for several years. This year it became much worse. A number of contractors and roof people have been to look at it. One suggested better paint on the wall above the leak -- which didn't help. Another bid $20,000 to fix the leak by removing a the roof near the leak and replacing it. (Roofing the entire house cost less than that!). None of these experts actually explained to me exactly what was leaking or why. The $20,000 guy -- a contractor with one lousy Angie's List report -- said he was one of three people in the entire Bay Area who had the expertise to fix the problem. He brought in a roofer -- who has a series of very good Angie's LIst reports -- to look at the problem. Neither was able to explain the exact problem to me. But they were sure willing to take my money! Along comes Excelsior. He clearly explained the likely source of the leak. His explanation fit with all the evidence -- why the leak only occurs at certain times under certain conditions, etc. It appears nothing needs to be done immediately beyond the caulk. Assuming that does the trick, there may be a further bit of work to make that fix permanent. $20,000 vs. $150? Yow! It pays to get a second or third opinion!

When my roof leaked, I called Cosmos and left a message. They responded soon after and came and did a temporary patch. I was leaving town so I left buckets under the leak "just in case.". A few days later, I received a call saying they could come and do a permanent patch that they would guarantee for two years and so I gave them the okay to go ahead. Since then it has rained and my roof has not leaked.

Cupertino Roofing is an excellent company to work with. We had a leak from our shingled roof over our garage and it was not apparent where the source was. I called Dave Smith (the owner) in the morning and he was at our house by that afternoon. He assessed the area where he thought it was coming from and said he would fit us in for repair between his current jobs. Dave called the next day and was at our place that afternoon with a crew of 3. He removed part of the ridge shingles near the leak, found the source and fixed it - problem solved! I highly recommend Cupertino Roofing. Dave is really great to work with, an excellent craftsman and trouble shooter and have recommended him highly to friends and neighbors.

Overall, it went alright. When we called for an estimate to fix the leak, the owner showed up with his crew and offered to fix it there and then. We didn't take the offer because we were waiting for another estimate. After we decided to use Tri City, only the crew came to fix the leak in the garage flowing down from the tile roof above. They basically cleaned the debris under the tiles and rearranged the tiles. There weren't any cracks on the tiles. The leak was caused by too much debris clogging the gutter causing the water to backflow. It fixed the leak but they didn't replace the sheets with new ones which they should have.

I would never recommend this roofer. My roof leaks now that they have put on the new roof. I have had to call them a second time. The leaking ruined the brand new wall I had installed.He gave me a refund. He made it right but it was a hassle. I have two leaks now. I also have a leak in the guestroom and I am very upset about that. That room had a brand new paint job. He is not on my happy list.

"Price seemed to go up based on the tile color, the contract had listed Timberline or GAF. I choose GAF charcoal and it cost $400 more. $50.00 of dry rot repair was also on the contract he wanted to charge me another $175. the dry rot repair 12 x 12 inches. He would get very mad if you questioned anything. I would hire him to repair if the roof leaks since it is in the contract up to 5 years."

"Done Right's bid was not the lowest of the 5 or 6 I got, but it was competitive. Glen (the owner) was very professional, took plenty of time to explain the type of roof coating he would use, discussed the possible issues with the weather and how we would work around them, and provided a good written quote with a longer warranty than the other, cheaper bid. I also liked the fact that Done Right is licensed as a general and sheet metal contractor, in addition to roofing. For all these reasons, I chose Done Right. They met expectations in every way. The work began within a few days of my acceptance. Glen called frequently throughout to keep me posted on progress and to let me know when they would and would not be working. He flexibly worked around some weather issues, whereas some bidders didn't want to do the work until spring because the coating system can't be applied when there's any moisture on the roof or likely to come within 24 hours.

<br />In the course of the work, the crew found some low areas on one of the roofs, and built them up (at a very reasonable cost) to decrease the pooling of water. They also replaced a previously broken skylight just for the cost of the material. "I got their name from a sign of a person in our neighborhood who had their shake roof rehabilitated. I asked them how it went and they were quite happy. I connected with Dan (sales specialist for roof rehab) and he inspected the both the roof of our house and our nearby rental. We walked both roofs with him pointing out the issues. We agreed that one roof was beyond repair, but our house was completely within reason. Since we have solar panels it is very expensive to lift them off for roof replacement, so we were highly motivated to do a repair. He gave us a quote for replacing about 400 shakes, shims, pressure wash cleaning and then conditioning with an oil made for rejuvenating shake. Doing web research was quite challenging, but Dan's advice was readily validated once I understood the issues.
The workers seemed to be quite capable. The cleaning process was really messy as there was a lot of stuff that came off the roof. There is a lot of moss this time of year. That said, they cleaned up the mess at the end of the day quite well. They did a thorough job and I walked the roof and it looked very good. That is to say, it was hard to tell what was new or old because the roof looked fine. They use recycled shake so there are no obvious patches, but I could see it was in very good shape.
There was one additional thing I requested since I had a known leak where I did a quickie patch in an unobvious spot where flashing came together with a flat roof. It was forgotten, but Sam came back the next day a fixed it.
They ask for about 20% down, but did not ask for the final payment until it was perfect.
It was not easy to find firms that do shake rehab, because most roofing firms want to replace the roof. Compared to other rehab efforts I have seen I think they did a better job."

"The visit went very well. Justin Beam came out and did a thorough inspection of the roof. It was a super tiny leak, but this being our first house to purchase (3 months ago), I freaked out. He said the roof looked good, it was the original roof from 2006. He took pictures and suspects it is coming from a plumbing air vent seal, but said since everything looked good he wanted to wait for the next rain to ensure where the water was entering from. He was honest, said "I don't want to do a $500 job for no reason, so just call me with the next rain, I'll come right over." He didn't charge me anything to come look at the roof. Was here within 15 min. of my scheduled appointment. I was extremely pleased!
