CNN+ (pronounced as CNN Plus) is a video streaming service that launched on March 29, 2022.[1] It is an offshoot of the CNN cable television news network. The new digital streaming service was announced on July 19, 2021, as "the evolution of video news and the start of a new era for the company".[2]

Origins[edit]

On July 19, 2021, CNN announced that they would offer an new round-the-clock streaming service, due to launch in the first quarter of 2022. The plan was for the service to offer eight to twelve hours of live programming a day, complemented by original series created just for the service and others culled from the network's archives, as well as an "interactive community" that would allow viewers to interact with on-airtalent.[2]

Talent[edit]

On July 16, 2021, CNN announced that former NBC News correspondent Kasie Hunt joined the network in September. Kasie was among of the first personalities planned for the streaming service; The Source with Kasie Hunt will be the new title of her show. [3]

On December 12, 2021, it was announced that Scott Galloway, a professor from the New York University joined CNN+ as a contributor to its original live programming.[4] Also, Chris Wallace announced that would join CNN+ after spending 18 years at Fox News, as well as serving as the host of Fox News Sunday.[5]

On January 10, 2022, former NPR host Audie Cornish joined CNN+ and planned to launch her interview show 20 Questions with Audie Cornish on the streaming service.[6][7]

Also in January 2022, CNN+ announced additional talent hires including Rex Chapman and Alison Roman.[8][9]

On March 11, 2022, CNN announced that CNN+ would launch on March 29, 2022.[10][11][12]

Pricing[edit]

On March 3, 2022, CNN announced that the pricing for CNN+ started at $5.99 a month or $59.99 per year; new users who sign up in the first four weeks directly with the network were to receive 50% off their plan for life. Subscribers who received CNN (which previously included CNNgo) would still get live feeds of its linear channels, along with on-demand content.

On March 24, 2022, CNN announced the live, daily and weekly schedule and original programming that was to be available when CNN+ launched on March 29, 2022.[13]
