I want to know why my 69 year old Ukrainian aunt can go to Poland and Ireland without a passport and be accepted as a refugee, but I can not take her back to the U.S. where her only family remains. We are the only caregivers left to take care of her.

I want to know when journalists will begin to write about the fact that the U.S. simply performs, but does not intend to actually support Ukrainians? Ukrainians are not allowed refugee status in the U.S.— not even if they have relatives.

A MESSAGE FOR ALL TV PRODUCERS, PARTICULARLY SHOWRUNNERS/EPS:
this morning, an anti-sweep protest scene was shot in DTLA near city hall. in order to make way for the production, a sweep was conducted, displacing unhoused folks. this happens all the time, and it is not okay.

Speaker Pelosi: "This will be your third time."
Reporter: "My third time what, asking about Covid relief? Well, it's substantive, you like substantive questions."
Pelosi: "Well while people are dying in Ukraine and all of that."
Reporter: "People are dying of Covid, too."

The only #Deltasmelt found now in #CDFW surveys are of hatchery origin, since Delta's once most abundant fish has become virtually extinct in the wild. The smelt's demise is a direct result of the capture of CA state government by #BigAg & other corporate interests. #cawater

CDFW's Spring Kodiak Trawl netted a total of 11 hatchery-origin Delta Smelt today. Two of those were ripe females looking for a good place to spawn.

Blob op-eds are suddenly warming to a neutralized Ukraine, whereas two weeks ago the very suggestion was a shocking violation of Kiev’s “sovereignty.”
It’s an encouraging sign for peace, even if the serene lack of self-awareness over this shift is irritating, if predictable.

Amazing news. @RFERL opens 2 bureaus in Lithuania and Latvia to support Russian and Belarusian services that were expelled from both countries. As a former RFE/RL journo,I've to say that we need to invest in free information, especially when the war transforms the media landscape

The Atlantic Council's chief Holocaust/Nazi revisionist is now openly pushing for the US to wage a nuclear holocaust.
Aslund was one of the authors of last year's Atlantic Council white paper guiding Biden's hawkish policy turn on Russia/Ukraine.

We're now at the point where the Atlantic Council is claiming Nazis never used chemical weapons at Auschwitz. holy fucking shit what is happening

Back in 2014, I dismissed all this talk about creating partisan units to mount an insurgency against a Russian invasion as a keyed-up fantasy — an understandable fantasy, but a fantasy nonetheless. Now…well…I’m not so sure.

A guy was detained at Gostiny dvor in St Petersburg (the supposed place of a protest) and sentenced to 5 days in jail. The only problem... he came there not for the protest, but to buy a Harry Potter themed magic wand after contacting a seller on Avito (Russian Craigslist).

They might retain the workforce, waiting for the renewal of imports, but if this doesn’t happen in a few weeks or months, dramatic spike in unemployment is guaranteed. In addition, some of Russia’s productive capacity is directly organized by foreign capital. (9/16)

I've never really seen Putin like this. His rage is palpable. Even when he pulled out that "jackals begging at foreign embassies" line 15 years ago, there was a kind of wink to it. There's no wink here.
Quote Tweet
Ominous words from Putin about a “natural and necessary cleansing of the nation” to “spit out like flies” all representatives of a fifth column and “traitors” who do not back the Kremlin line. No wonder thousands are leaving the country in fear.

It was kind of "capitalism in one country" speech because the private sector and entrepreneurs were mentioned repeatedly, but they were told that they need to work under the conditions of autarky.

Speaks of people who make money in RUS, but keep it abroad as traitors--presumably forgetting that it applies to himself and all those around him.
Speaks of great infrastructural plans forgetting how little was done under much better conditions.
