Resource Request

Fixing references and common medical problems!
Warning: for legal reasons, we must note that the Resource Exchange cannot fix any medical problems. But it can fix references.

Finding a source[edit]

Tips for finding a source yourself[edit]

  • Send a request to the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email.
  • Check what sources are available to you in The Wikipedia Library – editors active for at least six months with over 500 edits, at least 10 of them in the last month, and with no active blocks have immediate access to the Wikipedia Library Bundle.
    • Available databases in the bundle include: Gale, EBSCO, JSTOR, Oxford and ProQuest
  • Consider applying for access to additional Wikipedia Library sources at The Wikipedia Library Card Platform.
    • Additional databases include: Newspapers.com, NewspaperARCHIVE.com, Project MUSE, Taylor & Francis and much more.
  • Search for periodical titles in the Wikipedia Library database index at The Wikipedia Library/A–Z.
  • Check on Google Books, or your local library or national library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription.
  • Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories.
  • Check whether your alma mater's library offers electronic document delivery services for alumni, if applicable.

Note that sites like Library Genesis (LibGen) and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.

Making a request[edit]

  • A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work.
  • All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
  • We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please ask for specific pages that relate to the article(s) you need them for.
  • You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page.
  • To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences.
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc.
  • Indicate which Wikipedia articles are being improved.
  • Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
  • Filled requests are archived.
  • Requests unfilled after three months will be archived.

Fulfilling a request[edit]

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
  • Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}.
  • You can:
    • point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... )
    • share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal
    • upload out of copyright works to Wikimedia Commons and/ or Wikisource (but be careful that this does not breach your own institution's policies)
    • email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.

Copyright tips:

  • Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
  • Share content in a limited manner that is targeted at as few individuals as possible to achieve a specific improvement on Wikipedia. All content is shared under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose in order to conduct research about topics on Wikipedia and/or to improve Wikipedia content.
  • Share copies privately rather than with a publicly accessible link whenever possible. Copyrighted articles from print publications or copies obtained through online databases should not be uploaded for unrestricted distribution via open websites. Preferably, do not share login access codes for entire websites; rather, share only an individual copy of a resource.
  • Remember that you take on the individual risk when sharing content, and act in a way that is comfortable and safe for you. Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks.

Francisation de la langue nord-coréenne/Frenchisation of the north korean language[edit]

Retrieved 4 December 2021. {{cite journal}}: Cite journal requires |journal= (help)

For Romanisation du coréen: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanisation_du_cor%C3%A9en . Basically, in old North Korean postcards from the 70's to the 90's, the romanization used is a special kind that tried to use french orthography. I have never seen this anywhere else, the french wikipedia page on romanisation of the korean language for north korea is basically a carbon copy of the english page. If anyone knows any information about this romanisation system, then this would be heavily appreciated. All I can do for the time being is try to piece the rules back together by using individual documents and perhaps expand the french wikipedia page on this topic to include the curious "francisation" of korean used by the foreign languages publishing house.

PS/Update emailing the foreign languages publishing house returns a blank (as is usual..) It seems the spelling is used at least until 2010, from the following photo: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:North_Korea_(5015250703).jpg

Notice the spelling of the green book on the left, Le dirigeant *Kim Djeung Il* This is not used on the french wikipedia page https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Jong-il

Frustratingly I even had an edit revoked by someone who thought that an alternate spelling of a city using this standard was not valid. Which it definitely is, as it is the only standard used in North Korea for decades for 100 percent of the french publications, with the exception of already standard spellings (like Pyongyang). The FLPH standard was even copied into french news from the 1970's. I am not sure what is used nowadays in north korea, as the north korean websites I looked at have electronic copies of works that use the english/revised romanization spellings of words.

A quick list of words first using the english spelling and then the FLPH french standard

Mansudae/Mansoudai Kimchaek/Kimtchaik Chongjin/Tcheungdjin Taesong/Daiseung Chollima/Tcheullima

I tried to make an explainer https://rpdctransports.blogspot.com/2021/11/francisation-de-la-langue-coreenne-en.html

Pollstar[edit]

Hi! I need access to Ricky Martin's full Box score history from Pollstar to use on his tours articles. Can anyone send me his full history or can I apply for the free access? (I live in Iran and I can't buy it by myself) Here are the articles that would use this source: Livin' la Vida Loca Tour, the One Night Only with Ricky Martin tour, the Black and White Tour, the Música + Alma + Sexo World Tour, the Ricky Martin Live tour, the One World Tour, the All In residency, the Movimiento Tour, and the Enrique Iglesias and Ricky Martin Live in Concert tour. I would also create articles for several other of his tours if I have access to his Boxscore data. Thanks. آرمین هویدایی (talk) 21:32, 11 December 2021 (UTC)

@آرمین هویدایی: If you're eligible, you can apply for Wikipedia Library access to a number of resources at https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/ - but Pollstar is not among them. There is a link to "Suggest a collection", so you can request that Pollstar be added there, but of course it is up to that site whether they wish to participate. November 2011 issue of Famitsu Xbox 360[edit]

I am looking for a review of the video game Code_18, which according to Famitsu's website was printed in the November 2011 issue of Famitsu Xbox 360 (Japanese: ファミ通 Xbox360 2011年11月). Shipping costs for second-hand copies of the issue are too high for me as I live in Sweden, so I'm asking here if anyone happens to have access to a copy. For reference, this is what the cover of the issue looks like: [1].

Yes. Deepankar Ganguly, the incumbent Chair of Calcutta Municipal Corporation Archives has digitised all gazettes between 1924 and 1975. The documents are supposed to be available at the Amal Home Digital Archive. TrangaBellam (talk) 06:13, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

@ Thanks TrangaBellam for interesting info but I am not getting the way to access it. Does ica.org needs any specific browser or setting etc?

Regards Bookku, 'Encyclopedias = expanding information & knowledge' (talk) 08:37, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

Update: The ica.org has not worked but I have come across one Digital Library of the West Bengal Secretariat and search their lead me to one Gazette 1st April to 30th April 1969 & 1st December to 31st December 1969 But that is neither matching the title as in google books nor could I come across content words ' Rabindra Sarobar Stadium ' I am looking for. One problem with this database service is neither it allows to save document to desk top nor it provide for text search within document and finding wanted text is a cumbersome task for any single person.

PC Hardware Games, again[edit]

3dfx Interactive mentions the cancelled but then-hyped Rampage chipset and the company's Spectre series of graphics cards that were intended to be shipped with the chipset, but is not supported by any citation discussing it. This source covers the subject retrospectively and seems to be the most definitive out of what I could find. If I am lucky, I may be able to find something else useful for the artcle.

Thanks, FreeMediaKid$ 01:31, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

FreeMediaKid!, I've ordered the volume to the reading room and would likely be able to scan the article on Friday. However, I just noticed that your request dates back to December. Maybe you can give an update as to whether this is still something you need. — Pajz (talk) 01:57, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
I would still like the reference. I have been hooked onto the article ever since I started heavily contributing to it. I was busy doing other wiki work, but I do not mind having two works on my schedule and returning to this article. FreeMediaKid$ 04:29, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
FreeMediaKid!,  Not done, I'm afraid. I checked the 2014 issues of PC games : wissen, was gespielt wird (ISSN 0946-6304) and the 2014 issues of PC Games : PCGH. Hardware (ISSN 1616-6922), in both cases without success. From further research, it looks like the requested article appeared in ZDB-ID 3035685-4 = DNB-IDN 1216722595, which seems to be an electronic-only, independent, and irregularly-published sub-series. (The citation is therefore probably not quite correct is several respects. The "work" is "PC games. Hardware. Wissen" while "Die spannende IT-History" is most likely not the "title" [of the article], but an issue title of issue #2, and, per Template:Cite magazine#Magazine, as such should go in the "issue" field. In addition, according to the DNB record, the publication date of issue #2 is May 28, 2014, not February 2014.) Since this German magazine, from what it appears, is not even available in any German library other than the German National Library (which stores the electronic legal deposit), the chances of obtaining a copy of the requested article through this page seem very slim. The entire issue can apparently be purchased from www.united-kiosk.de at a price of 12 EUR. — Pajz (talk) 09:48, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

Endnotes to Motoo Ōtaguro book[edit]

For Motoo Ōtaguro

I'm looking for the new introduction and/or end notes which is cited in the Japanese wiki article. This is in a few international libraries, even if you don't read Japanese, finding the right pages might still be doable. It's just a few pages according to the National Diet Library.

Thanks, RoseCherry64 (talk) 21:31, 28 December 2021 (UTC)

Doing... Not sure if I can get it. I will try to get it through one of my fellow researchers who works at University of Tokyo. It may takes two-three weeks. --Gazal world (talk) 09:56, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

Huge thanks for attempting to get this source. No worries about the wait. RoseCherry64 (talk) 14:27, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
@Gazal world: Sorry to bother you, but do you have any update or know if it's possible for you to obtain a copy this way? Again, huge thanks for attempting to get me this source. RoseCherry64 (talk) 12:30, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
@RoseCherry64: Hi. Sorry for my late response. My friend was super busy last month, but I received his reply today. I will get this paper for you this month. I will also try to get other Japanese-language materials you requested on this page. --Gazal world (talk) 15:20, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
@RoseCherry64: Send me a wikimail. --Gazal world (talk) 08:19, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

Yes Sent --Gazal world (talk) 11:45, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

@Gazal world: Unfortunately, this isn't the right notes, it's just the original 1935 introduction by Ōtaguro. It looks like it might come from an older printing that doesn't have the retrospective introduction by Masui. The other materials you sent were perfect, enormous thanks. RoseCherry64 (talk) 18:47, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
Can you tell me again what you want from the book, and from which edition? Any idea about page range ? Please check [National Diet Library] records and give me link of the book. I will request it again. Thanks. --Gazal world (talk) 20:04, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
@Gazal world: The 1996 reprint by 大空社/Ōzorasha. The following text on NDL's page for this edition translates to "Commentary by Keiji Masui, end pages 1-5" "解説(増井敬二):巻末p1-5" NDL ID which is what I need. Sorry for the confusion and enormous thanks for your continued efforts getting me these valuable resources I couldn't access on my own. RoseCherry64 (talk) 20:30, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
@RoseCherry64: Just to confirm. You need pp. 1 to 5 from the 1996 reprint. Right? --Gazal world (talk) 22:38, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
@Gazal world: The pages were described by NDL as end pages 1–5, so perhaps they're either not numbered or the numbering resets for those pages. The 1996 issue seems to be the only printed version containing Masui's introduction. RoseCherry64 (talk) 23:09, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

Cincinnati Daily Gazette 1835[edit]

I am looking for a source for the newspaper Cincinnati Daily Gazette for the year 1835, or other Cincinnati newspapers of that year. I am not looking for a specific issue or article, I have to browse through it. I'm looking for material on Amos Dresser (see Whipping of Amos Dresser). Things of his are reported as having been first published in this newspaper and experience and training say I should get the exact references (no one specifies them) and check them. I know it has been digitized, but cannot find a path to it. Failing that, a microfilm that my local library could borrow.

The link Doc Taxon posted is machine learning data, fed from Wikipedia and other sources.
The English news builletin from Tanjug is in the British Library Daily/Weekly. I could not find any reprints archived in newspapers.com or newspaperarchives.com. The citation is quite ambiguous, it might also be a translated headline from a Serbian language publication. Finding this is probably a challenge. RoseCherry64 (talk) 19:03, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

Asia and Africa Today[edit]

For Benjamin Arsanis. I don't know quite how to cite this but I'm looking for an article that appeared in an issue of the Soviet (?) journal/magazine Asia and Africa Today in 1978. According to Google Books the relevant portion (concerning Benjamin Arsanis) only takes up one page (which Google Books numbers 61). I can't view the full page on Google Books but it says that the magazine was digitized by the University of Minnesota, which in their database have an issue from 1978 if that is helpful. I don't know the precise issue of the magazine more than the year, nor the title of the article.

Thanks, Ichthyovenator (talk) 11:55, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

Just to clarify, Asia and Africa Today (ISSN 0134-451X; 1961 - 1992) appears to be a (now-discontinued) translation of Azija i Afrika segodnja: ežemesjačnyj, naučnyj i obščestvenno-političeskij žurnal (ISSN 0321-5075; 1961 -). 2002 Brentwood Gazette interview[edit]

The Statutory Inquiry onto the British Post Office scandal recently heard of a "2002 Brentford Gazette interview with Baljit Sethi" (Sethi was a sub-postmaster). I appreciate this is a vague description, but is anyone able to furnish a copy, please? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:37, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

There is no paper with the exact name "Brentford Gazette" in the British Library catalogue. Published at the time, there's Brentford, Chiswick and Isleworth times (1983-2008) and Brentford & Chiswick informer (2001-2009). This isn't really findable with that citation, since one would have to look through two full years worth of microfilm. RoseCherry64 (talk) 10:58, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

For Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Sorry I don't have more info, they're just sources already in the article but I can't verify their contents. I tried Gale and Ebsco but couldn't find them and Gale wasn't working properly, wouldn't let me click links.

Thanks, Darkwarriorblake / SEXY ACTION TALK PAGE! 12:47, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

@Darkwarriorblake: I can the ones which are from Variety, wikimail me for the PDFs; I'll add ProQuest links / cross off the citations as I get them. Umimmak (talk) 20:36, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
Okay I got all the Variety articles wikimail me and I'll send them to you; I don't have access to Daily Variety from the 90s. The UCLA Library page [5] has a useful guide and according to that there should be online access to Daily Variety from April 27 1992-March 2013 in "Nexis Uni" (at least in UCLA's subscription), so maybe someone else here has access to that database. Umimmak (talk) 21:02, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
Mail sent! Darkwarriorblake / SEXY ACTION TALK PAGE! 23:12, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
@Darkwarriorblake: okay I Yes Sent the six requests from Variety -- hopefully someone else has access to Daily Variety. Umimmak (talk) 23:15, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
Umimmak sorry to bother you but when you found the resources, did the page numbers match? I'm looking through them now and I'm confused why the existning references in the article say like Page 117 (I can't see a page number on the initial page of some of the double pages) but then it'll say "continued on page 37". Maybe that's how Variety works but I'm just curious. Thanks Darkwarriorblake / SEXY ACTION TALK PAGE! 13:45, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
Nevermind, at the "continued from" section, it says "continued from page 108". Weird. Thanks anyway. Darkwarriorblake / SEXY ACTION TALK PAGE! 13:47, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
@Darkwarriorblake: yeah the PDFs all have the pages in numerical order, but the article starts at the later page and continues on the earlier page. Strange to me as well, probably should have clarified when I sent them. The {{ProQuest}} IDs should have all the page number/citation info even if you don't have access, but I think also the header should have page info? So like "Arnold conquers Gaul" is p. 72, 68 (but in the PDF p. 68 comes before 72), etc. Umimmak (talk) 19:47, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
Thanks Umimmak, no for whatever reason the double page PDFs only have the citation details at the top of the first page, and only list that page number. The second page, which is of course the first page, has nothing on it so I was getting confused. But you're right, the actual link shows the page numbers, thanks again. Darkwarriorblake / SEXY ACTION TALK PAGE! 23:20, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
Sorry to bother you again Umimmak, do you have access to this one?
  • Berman, Marc (January 6, 1992). "Rentals Reap Bulk of 1991 Vid Harvest". Variety. p. 22.

A Biographical Dictionary of British and Irish Engravers, 1714-1820 by David Alexander, and some other sources[edit]

Greeting. There's a request for following sources.

  • Alexander, David (2022). A Biographical Dictionary of British and Irish Engravers, 1714-1820. London, New Haven: Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art; distributed by Yale University Press. ISBN 1913107213. OCLC 1286378106. As the first reference work to cover all engravers working on copper in Britain and Ireland 1714-1820, it would be interesting to check for some additional insight on Claude Du Bosc and John Simon (engraver).
  • Alis, Bernard (2014). Mademoiselle Desmares de la Comédie-Française (in French). Châtillon: les Amis du vieux Châtillon. ISBN 978-2-9513219-0-8. OCLC 910889182.. For Charlotte Desmares, as this book seems to be the definitive biography on the subject. For beginning, I'd like to check the table of contents, and some opening parts before going any further. I'm aware though, that there's an earlier 2004 edition of Alis' study that also covers the Swiss banker Antoine Hogguer, Desmares' longtime associate. That edition is also available in the BnF.
  • Courteaux-Enault, Huguette (1993). "Un tableau inédit de Watteau et la Franc-maçonnerie à Saint-Germain-en-Laye". In Corp, Edward T. (ed.). L'autre exil : les Jacobites en France au début du XVIIIe siècle (collected papers). Montpellier: Presses du Languedoc. pp. 131–142. ISBN 2-84062-008-1. OCLC 29386382.. For Charlotte Desmares, for the requested thesis' author supposes a painting by Antoine Watteau to be a portrayal of Desmares and her company-mate Philippe Poisson, and is giving some insight into Desmares' life.
  • Potiquet, Alfred (1878) [1876]. Jean-Baptiste Santerre, peintre: sa vie et son oeuvre (in French) (2nd ed.). Magny-en-Vexin: Petit. OCLC 458077934.. For Jean-Baptiste Santerre, given that it's the earliest modern biography of him. It has never been republished since 1878, and is certainly a public domain work per U.S. copyright law at least, as more than 130 years has passed since Potiquet's death in 1883. Nevertheless, it's not available in a digitized form via Gallica, archive.org etc.

In case one is interested, there's a similar, earlier request in the French Wikipedia that feature #2 to #4. Thanks from Russia with love, Gleb95 (talk) 10:09, 23 February 2022 (UTC).

The Southern Marches of Imperial Ethiopia: Essays in History and Social Anthropology[edit]

For Tessema Nadew and related articles. I would like to see chapter 2 & 3 of Volume II Renegotiating power and authority pp.51-96. I appreciate if the notes to these pages are included, they start on pp. 260 to perhaps 267 (not sure, limited view on google books).

Thanks, Dawit S Gondaria (talk) 01:51, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

Dawit S Gondaria, the imprint suggests this likely is just a paperback reprint of the original - and widely available - 1986 edition (ISBN 0521322375, OCLC 13123313) (note it says "second impression" rather than edition + the number of pages is exactly identical + the typesetting is, from what it appears based on the table of contents, that of the 1986 edition). It would probably be helpful if you could clarify whether you're fine with a copy from the 1986 edition. — Pajz (talk) 13:07, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
@Pajz: Yes i'm fine with a 1986 copy thanks! I can usually see other available editions on Google books, i didn't see it in this case. I also couldn't find it in archive and wikilibrary Dawit S Gondaria (talk) 16:17, 4 March 2022 (UTC)

Northern Ireland in the Second World War[edit]

  • Blake, John William (1956). Northern Ireland in the Second World War. Belfast: H.M. Stationery Office. OCLC 252242666. p 159 ff.

For List of British corps in World War II and VI Corps (United Kingdom)

I am currently overhauling the list of British corps during the Second World War. There is a gap between the British V and VII Corps. Per our VI Corps article, there was no such corp formed. I have access to Joslen (division and brigade order of battles), which does not show any forces assigned to such a corp and has formations in N.Ireland under the command of British Troops in Northern Ireland etc. Blake's work, on p. 159 per snippet view, seems to indicate that the corps was formed. All I can see is "It should perhaps be explained that, in mid-June 1940, all forces in the United Kingdom were re-organised for home defence, that the troops in Northern Ireland were placed under G.H.Q., Home Forces, and that H.Q., VI Corps was...". Does anyone have access to this source, to see what Blake goes on to state about the corps? The National Archives holds records for the corps, and their website implies it was in existence between June and August and became British Troops in Northern Ireland. This does not align with Joslen, which implies it already existing in June 1940, so really hoping Blake provides an answer. Thanks, EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 03:36, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

No worries, @Umimmak, there's no urgency, and I appreciate your help! valereee (talk) 20:39, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
@Valereee: I’m sorry to say my library’s copy of that issue is in such poor condition that it apparently isn’t allowed to be photocopied. Hopefully someone else can get this for you! If you’re desperate eventually I might be able to request it, make an appointment, travel to the reading room, and take notes, but I think this is less than ideal if someone else can photocopy it. Umimmak (talk) 18:50, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
Wow, that is too bad lol! Thank you anyway, @Umimmak, and I certainly don't think you should go to all that trouble! Fingers crossed there's copy of this available somewhere else! :) valereee (talk) 14:47, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Official Xbox Magazine[edit]

I am editing Forza (series) to upgrade it to B-class and hopefully get it to pass the good article criteria. While I could not tell you the page numbers of the requested source (indeed, the Internet Archive no longer has the entry or has otherwise hidden it to protect its copyright), I did learn about this issue's contents including a preview of Forza Motorsport 3. I would like this source to see whether it contains information relevant to the article on the series that I would not find elsewhere.
