Currently being used by the IT department and it provides several solutions such as discovery, datacenter management, asset management, dependency mapping, and even has a built in password manager which has proved useful with hardly any initial configuration or dependencies. To some degree, it is an all in one multi-purpose software that any IT department would find useful.

Well suited to smaller organizations looking for a multi-purpose IT software. Maybe less suited for larger global organizations that have existing software in place or global-scale contracts.

Device42 is being used for customer's datacenter infrastructure discovery. We provide support to customers for their infrastructure inventory discovery. It gets the complete data of customers IT infrastructure which may not be known to them. It discovers physical and virtual servers along with their Network devices. By using this discovery data, customer can analyse this data and take different decisions to improve their infrastructure.
  • Device42 can discover physical and virtual servers as well as your network devices
  • Device42 can give resource utilization details like CPU, Memory and Storage
  • Device42 can give dependency mapping
  • Device42 can give inbound and outbound communication details
  • Device42 can create Affinity Groups (Move Groups)
  • Device42 can recommend the Cloud platform to which you can migrate your infrastructure.
  • Device42 should make it easy to get dependency mapping
  • Device42 should make it easy to create Affinity Groups
1. Device42 has easy reporting
2. You can run scripts to customize reporting data that you want to fetch.

Asset Management? Asset Tracking? License, Contract, Procurement management? Device42 has us covered for it all. Device42 is being used across our whole organization and is doing a great job at the aforementioned solutions. Great support, affordable, easy to implement and easy to use. Also, its JIRA integration and workflows sure make life easier for us.

  • IPAM has seen a few bumps in the past few months but not a big issue
  • Implementation at first has a learning curve but still easy compared to other solutions out there
It has reduced a lot of work for our engineers and architects by simplifying asset management for us. It is recommended at any scale if you're looking for a stable solution. However, if you're looking for something flawless with no budgetary restrictions then you can look elsewhere for more finished products.

What is Device42?

Device42 is presented by the vendor as a comprehensive, agentless discovery system for Hybrid IT. They state Device42 can continuously discover, map, and optimize infrastructure and applications across data centers and cloud, providing accurate views of an IT ecosystem. Device42 intelligently groups discovered workloads by application affinities, so as to reduce the effort required to create move groups, capturing all communications. The vendor boasts customers in more than 60 countries including Global 2000 clients and Systems Integrators that use these capabilities as they manage and modernize their IT infrastructure and application landscapes and adopt DevOps practices.

Integrations, REST APIs and WebHooks foster automation of workflows, while the CMDB serves as a single source of truth. Device42 includes Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) features, IP Address Management, and Application Mappings.
