You’ll see what it’s worth instantly.

Just answer a few questions about your device. Based on what you tell us, you could receive an Apple Gift Card or instant credit at an Apple Store.1 Or you’ll have the option to recycle it for free.

Your data stays safe.

It goes on to help the planet.

You may be done with your device, but chances are it still has more to give. If it’s in good shape, we’ll help it go to a new owner. If not, we’ll send it to our recycling partner, so we can save more precious materials and take less from the earth.

And if it’s an iPhone, it could even go to Daisy3, our disassembly robot that can efficiently recover the resources inside.

Just mail it out, have it picked up or bring it in.

Trading in your device is as easy as buying a new one.

If you’re trading in an old device for credit towards a new one online, you can choose to schedule a courier pick‑up or drop off your device at the post office. You can also trade in your device at an Apple Store.

Even if you’re not purchasing a new device, you can trade in an eligible device in store or online via courier pick‑up.

If your trade‑in device is eligible, you could get credit towards a new device, or an Apple Gift Card you can use at any time. And if it’s not, we can send it on to our recyclers.

Please note: computer trade‑in is currently only available online.

It’s our trade‑in and recycling program that’s good for you and the planet. If your trade‑in device is eligible for credit, you can offset the purchase price of a new one. If it’s not eligible for credit, you can recycle it for free.

Whether you’re making a purchase or not, we’ve made it easy to trade in an eligible device either in store or online. Just answer a few questions regarding the brand, model and condition of your device. We’ll provide an estimated trade‑in value or a simple way to recycle it.

If you accept the trade‑in estimate in store, we’ll give you instant credit towards a purchase or a gift card you can use at any time.

If you accept the trade‑in estimate online when you purchase a new Mac, iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch, we’ll arrange for you to send your current device to our trade‑in partner. Once they receive it, they’ll inspect it and verify its condition. If everything checks out, your original purchase method will be credited and you will receive any remaining balance on an Apple Gift Card via email.

If you choose to trade in your current device online for a gift card, we’ll also arrange for you to send it to our trade‑in partner. When everything checks out, you will receive an Apple Gift Card via email.

Regardless of how you choose to trade in, if the condition of your device doesn’t match what you described, a new estimated trade‑in value will be provided. You’ll have the option to either accept this revised quote or reject it. If you reject it, your device will be returned to you at no charge.

It depends on where and when you make a purchase.

If you’re ready to buy a new product at an Apple Store, you can bring your current device with you. If it’s eligible for trade‑in, we’ll apply an instant credit at the time of purchase. The only exception is that Mac trade‑ins are only available online.

If you’re ready to buy a new Apple product online (apple.com/au or the Apple Store app), you can trade in a current eligible device and get credit towards your purchase.

If you’re not ready to make a purchase, you can trade in your current eligible device online for an Apple Gift Card via email that you can apply to any future Apple purchase.

And no matter how you use Apple Trade In, if your device has no trade‑in value, you can always recycle it responsibly for free.

Generally it takes 2–3 weeks. But the sooner you send your device to our trade‑in partner, the sooner they can verify its condition and the sooner your trade‑in credit or gift card can be processed.

Recycling a device is much faster. As soon as we email you a prepaid shipping label, you can send your device to our recycling partner.

It depends on what you buy and how you pay for it.

If you buy an iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch and pay in full, we’ll apply a credit to your original payment method up to the total purchase price. For any remaining amount, you’ll receive an Apple Gift Card via email.

Once our trade‑in partner receives your trade‑in device and confirms that the condition matches what you described, there’s nothing more you need to do. If it doesn’t match, your original payment method will be charged the difference in value. In that case, our trade‑in partner will work with you to confirm that you still want to move forward with the trade‑in.

Yes, the Apple Trade In program is available on apple.com/au as well as in all our retail stores. The only exception is that Mac trade‑ins are only available online.

However, keep in mind that the trade‑in credit you get in store may be different from the estimated trade‑in value you received online.

It depends on the device, model, manufacturer and condition. Answer a few questions accurately, and once our trade‑in partner receives the device within the specified timeframe and verifies its condition, you’ll most likely receive the full amount of the estimated refund.

Keep in mind that our trade‑in partner needs to receive your device within 14 days of the trade‑in being initiated, and the condition needs to match what you described.

If the condition of the device is different from what you described, you’ll receive a revised value. You can either accept or reject it. If you accept it, the trade‑in will continue and the value will be credited or charged to your original payment method. If you reject it, the trade‑in will be cancelled and your old device will be returned. No matter what, you’ll receive email updates about the progress of your trade‑in, so you’ll know what’s happening at every step.

Yes. If your device has no trade‑in value, Apple Trade In lets you recycle any Apple device, and devices from Apple-owned brands, at any Apple Store and online. We’ll make sure your device is recycled responsibly or given a chance to be used again.

You can bring your batteries and old Apple products to any Apple Store and we’ll recycle them responsibly, free of charge. We accept any small product or battery without purchase of a new product or battery.

If you know your product has no value or you have many units to recycle, you can bypass the trade‑in evaluation and go directly to recycling. Select “Other devices” on this page to initiate your request for recycling. In Australia, only our recycling partner accepts all brands for recycling. Check our recycling partner’s site for details.

You can trade in Apple and third-party devices. Many Apple and third-party devices are eligible for a trade‑in credit or an Apple Gift Card. And all Apple devices are eligible for recycling. Either way, give us your used devices and we will handle them responsibly.

If your trade‑in will be applied as a credit towards an online purchase, you can track it from your Apple Store account.

If you’re trading in for an Apple Gift Card, you can follow the status of your trade‑in by using our trade‑in partner’s status portal.

If you haven’t dropped off or shipped your device, you can cancel your trade‑in by simply keeping your device.

If you’ve already sent your device to our trade-in partner, then the trade‑in can’t be cancelled.

If you receive a revised trade‑in value after the inspection of your device and it’s lower than your original quoted value, you can choose to reject it and your device will be returned to you at no charge. However, all packaging and device accessories (such as keyboards, mice, cables and power adapters) will not be returned once sent in, even if you cancel your trade‑in.

No, you do not need to include accessories. If you choose to include any, we will recycle them for you.

You can trade in as many devices as you like, but we accept only one device per transaction.

You’ll receive detailed instructions on how to prepare your device so you can complete your trade‑in.

If you’re trading in your device for credit towards a new one, you can choose to drop it off or schedule a courier pick-up. If you prefer to drop it off, we’ll email you a barcode you can take to your local Australia Post, where they’ll pack up your device and send it to our trade‑in partner. If you select courier pick-up, we’ll send you a trade‑in kit so you can pack up your own device, and a courier will come to collect at the scheduled time.

To trade in a device without purchasing a new one, you’ll use the courier pick-up method described above.

Devices that contain batteries should be packed in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and industry best practices, which typically include the guidelines below:

  • Discharge the unit to less than 30 per cent.
  • Do not ship electronics that are disassembled into parts.
  • Do not ship electronics with swollen or damaged batteries.
  • For whole units, surround the product with at least 6 centimetres of suitable filler material, such as recycled or reused packaging, on all sides before placing inside a corrugated box.
  • Ship only one device per box.

To find your serial number, follow this guide.

Before you send your device to our trade‑in partner, we’ll tell you how to back up and erase all your data. This ensures that all your personal information is completely removed from your device before you trade it in or recycle it.

To turn off Find My on your iPhone or iPad:

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap [your name], then tap Find My.
  3. Tap Find My [device], then turn off Find My [device].

To turn Find My off via iCloud (if you do not have your device), follow this guide.

No, proof of purchase is not required to trade in a device with Apple Trade In.

The estimated trade‑in value is valid for 14 days, and we encourage you to send the device to our trade‑in partner within this timeframe to ensure you get this value.
