Introducing Canopy
Canopy is a new online system that will allow HLC member institutions and peer reviewers to easily update their records with HLC and stay informed about upcoming reviews and other requirements. HLC is rolling out the system to peer reviewers and institutional representatives in stages from December 2021–February 2022.
View system details and resources for:
- Applicants to HLC's Peer Corps
- Peer Reviewers and Institutional Actions Council Members
- Institutional Representatives
Applicants to HLC's Peer Corps
HLC’s peer reviewer application is available in Canopy until January 10, 2022. Those interested in applying to the Peer Corps can create an account to access the application. For details, visit Become a Peer Reviewer.
For assistance with Canopy or the application, see the Peer Reviewer Application User Guide or contact HLC.
Peer Reviewers and Institutional Actions Council Members
HLC peer reviewers, including peer reviewer members of the Institutional Actions Council (IAC), now have access to the system. These users received a welcome email on December 9 with instructions for logging into their account.
IAC public members will receive access to Canopy in early January 2022.
Peer Reviewer Profile Updates Due January 17, 2022
All peer reviewers should log into Canopy as soon as possible to review and update their Peer Reviewer Profile. To remain eligible to be assigned to HLC evaluations, this task must be completed before January 17, 2022.
For guidance on accessing and editing the profile, see Managing Your Peer Reviewer Profile. If you need assistance with Canopy, contact HLC.
System Features
Peer reviewers and Institutional Actions Council members will be able to:
- View and update their peer reviewer profile. (Canopy replaced the former Peer Reviewer Data Update System.)
- Respond to invitations to serve on teams, panels or Institutional Actions Council committees.
- Disclose conflicts of interest.
- Provide their schedule availability for serving on teams, panels or committees.
- View their full HLC service record.
Note: Some system features may not be immediately available, but HLC will notify users and provide information when new features are activated.
Institutional Contacts
Institutional contacts will be given access to Canopy based on the following schedule:
- Early January 2022: Chief Executive Officers and Accreditation Liaison Officers
- Early February 2022: Chief Financial Officers, Data Update Coordinators and Location Coordinators
HLC will notify each group before they are given access to the system and will provide training resources starting in January.
How Canopy Impacts Other HLC Systems
Canopy replaces HLC’s Location and Campus Update System and Institutional Update System. These systems have been disabled in preparation for the launch of Canopy. Institutions should hold any updates to their additional locations or branch campuses until CEOs and ALOs are given access to Canopy in January.
System Features
Institutional representatives will be able to complete the following tasks, depending on their role with HLC:
- View their institutional profile, including their institution’s current stipulations.
- View and update institutional contacts on file with HLC.
- View upcoming accreditation reviews, as well as a full history of past reviews.
- Export the Institutional Status and Requirements (ISR) Report.
- Manage branch campus and additional location information.
- Submit the Institutional Update.
Note: Some system features may not be immediately available, but HLC will notify users and provide information when new features are activated.
