2021 TAX STATEMENT SCHEDULE: Dates for W-2s, 1099Rs and other statements to arrive in myPay accounts for military members, federal civilian employees, military retirees and annuitants has been released. 1099 Tax Statements for 2021, and past civilian and military W-2 tax statements for tax years 2017-2021, will be available for reissue on AskDFAS beginning February 10, 2022.
NEW INFORMATION - SOCIAL SECURITY WITHHOLDING TAX DEFERRAL Collection of the 2020 deferred Social Security taxes is complete for most military members and civilian employees. DFAS OUT-OF-SERVICE DEBT PAUSE LIFTED AND NOTIFICATIONS RESUME: Beginning in March 2020, DFAS put a hold on notifying and collecting new Out-of-Service debts in order to provide financial relief to debtors. On October 1, 2021, this hold lifted and the DFAS Debt and Claims Office began mailing out Debt letters to affected individuals. DOD TEMPORARY BAH RATE INCREASES AFFECT 56 U.S. MILITARY HOUSING AREAS: A temporary increase for BAH rates for service members in certain areas can help offset rising rental housing costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Get more details here

SBP-DIC OFFSET PHASED ELIMINATION - Phase Two Begins January 2022 In Phase Two of the SBP-DIC Offset Phased Elimination, which begins January 1, 2022, the amount that is offset (deducted) from the spouse’s SBP annuity payment will be one-third of the amount of the DIC payment. To help surviving spouses who are eligible for both SBP and DIC in 2022 understand the effect of this 2022 change, DFAS mailed letters in early December with individual estimates of 2022 SBP payments. You should continue to receive your normal DIC amount from the VA.
SPECIAL INFORMATION FOR ACTIVE DUTY/LINE OF DUTY SURVIVING SPOUSES WHO ELECTED THE OPTIONAL ANNUITY FOR DEPENDENT CHILDREN The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020 directed that as of January 1, 2023, the Optional Annuity for Dependent Children will be eliminated and the SBP annuity payment must revert to the surviving spouse (if the spouse submits documentation and is eligible). REPORT THE DEATH OF A RETIREE ONLINE Use our convenient online form to report the death of a retiree at https://go.usa.gov/xnzQ9. Spouses and children of recently-deceased retirees: We have new, helpful tools and information to assist you with the SF 1174 for claiming the retiree’s Arrears of Pay. We can now deposit an Arrears of Pay (AOP) payment directly to an eligible claimant’s bank account instead of mailing a check.
