Yantian International Container Terminal (YICT) is restricting container trucking arrival times ahead of Chinese New Year.
Operator, Hutchison Ports Yantian, said due to no improvement of overseas port congestion, Yantian will only receive export laden containers with vessel ETB-4 (Estimated Time of Berthing – within four days).
Hutchison Ports added in the past 14 days, vessels schedule delayed over 170 hours on average, with the vessel arriving on-time coming in at less than 20 per cent.
Ongoing congestion at major ports such as Los Angeles, Long Beach, and the UK’s Port of Felixstowe has resulted in the number of on-time arriving vessels – mainly on US and EU services – falling by over 40% in the same period, the operator wrote.
Consequently, there are many laden boxes stuck inside the terminal, and yard density is close to full.
“We are now under the peak season before the Chinese New Year, [and] Yantian keeps operating with full gear to ensure the terminal operation running smoothly,” the statement from Hutchison Ports wrote.
“Yantian will continue to keep close communication and coordination with government, shipping carriers and relevant associations.”
Yantian International Container Terminal is a deep water port in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. The Port of Shenzhen, previously the second-busiest port in the country, saw a 10.7% increase in containers through October 2021, reaching a total of 23.8 million TEU.
The port is home to some of the biggest Chinese terminal operators including China Merchant Ports and Yantian International Container Terminals and has an annual transshipment capacity of around 18.91 million TEU.
