We had talked to about five contractors about the dining room window and they all said that they would need to tear out the window frame. I had another small window that they fixed, and in passing, asked if they could do anything with the window. They said it wasn't much of a deal, and that they could just replace the counter-balances. I called Fuller Haneyman service somewhat late in the evening. David arrived promptly the next morning, secured the door to the frame and boarded up the door and window. Greg is professional, meticulous, and takes great pride in his work. I needed a bathroom window in an Victorian apartment building replaced when it fell down a light well. Greg not only replaced the glass, he fixed the wobbly wooden frame, and reattached the counterweights which had broken off years ago. He also made sure that the job area was neat and clean during and after. And for a price that was more than fair. What he charged for the whole job, others wanted just to replace the glass. He knows his way around older buildings, and has knowledge of old school techniques and craftsmanship. He is a rare vendor who goes out of his way to make sure the job is done well, done for a fair price, and makes sure the customer is happy.

John was very creative dealing with all the projects by figuring out how to do the repairs, shopping and finding the fixtures (especially challenging for the door hinges that were adjustable bronze oil-rubbed hinges) and products that look good and work well. He is a great craftsman; very accurate, detail oriented, beautiful work where the repairs are not detectable. Neat, communicative, personable, and 100% punctual. The only portion of the job for which I had gotten an estimate in the past was replacing the door hinges. A door repairing company said all eight hinges needed to be replaced and that installing them and realigning the doors would take two days and cost over $1200.00. John sorted out which hinges actually needed to be fixed, purchased the right ones over the Internet, aligned the door, and did it all in a few hours and it all works perfectly.

I called for a broken window repair. After explaining what I needed, I was told the cost for coming out to look at the job for an estimate would be $150 regardless if they did the work or not. I live about a 5 to 6 minute drive from their shop. I was told the $150 would be added to the cost of the repair itself and at the least the cost would be $215 - or more. The size of the broken window is 12" x 12" (though it is one section of a much larger living room window). I got the impression that perhaps there was no interest in such a small job and feel it was an unprofessional way to handle the situation rather than just saying something like we don't do such small repairs which I could understand and accept. Or on the other hand, if this is their way of doing business it surely sucks. I called another local window repair company and was immediately told there's no cost for an estimate. The person came to my home and gave me a quote of $100 total cost for the repair.

Everything went very well. They gave me a rough estimate over the phone. I called a few more places, then settled on The Glass Club. They came out to look at the job, gave a formal estimate (which was the final price) and took measurements. We both had schedules that made it hard to give a fixed date for installing the replacement panes, but they ended up coming before I even expected the job to be finished. The windows where we live are probably as old as the house (ca. 1938), and are super-thin glass in metal frames. One of them broke just from tapping on it to scare off a cat that was taunting ours from outside. Lone Star replaced the window quickly, and Roberto, the installer, was courteous and professional. They were not able to come on the first day that they had suggested, due to another job that ran long, but they kept us informed and we had no problem re-scheduling, and it is now well done.
