Position Summary
The Center to Improve Veteran Involvement in Care (CIVIC) at VA Portland Health Care System is seeking to hire a full-time experienced Biostatistician. The Biostatistician provides support to multiple research teams on a range of health services research projects intended to advance scientific understanding of issues related to common and important health care problems and conditions that affect Veterans. Ongoing projects within CIVIC are related to strategies to enhance Veteran-clinician collaboration, suicide prevention, care coordination, COVID-19, traumatic brain injury, home-based primary care, opioids and pain, shared-decision making, cancer screening, and palliative care.
The Biostatistician will collaborate with and provide consultation to Principal Investigators at CIVIC, with some work to be done with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) (possible faculty appointment at OHSU depending on education and experience). General responsibilities include providing study design and methodology guidance to investigators, conducting power analysis calculations to inform grant applications, as well as data management, programming and statistical analysis activities for reports, manuscripts, and other publications. The Biostatistician will collaborate with an active group of investigators, other statisticians, data analysts, and research staff. Investigators at Department of Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, Seattle Division are seeking a full-time Implementation Project Coordinator to work on the TelePain Evaluation, Metrics, & Pain Outcomes (TEMPO) Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) Partnered Evaluation Initiative.
TelePain is a virtual interdisciplinary pain management program utilizing a hub-and-spoke delivery model. The goal of TelePain is to bring specialty pain treatment to rural areas and promote equitable access to care. The model was created and piloted in the Pacific Northwest. Starting in October 2021, 11 regions covering 32 U.S. states will be building new, or expanding on existing, TelePain programs. This position will primarily work with new TelePain hub sites across the country as well as TEMPO research staff. Most work will be virtual meetings across all U.S. time zones, although occasionally travel to implementation sites should be expected.

Position Summary
We seek a motivated and independent Research Project Manager for a full-time position to assist Principal Investigator (PI) Dr. Denise Hynes and her team in the Center to Improve Veteran Involvement in Care (CIVIC) at the VA Portland Health Care System (Portland, Oregon). The Research Project Manager will provide support to multiple research projects focused on care management and outcomes for chronic conditions that affect military veterans. Studies are led out of the Portland VA and involve collaboration with other VA and academic partners across the US.
Specific research projects topics are related to care coordination impacts on outcomes for patients with high-risk conditions, Veteran and provider perceptions of integrated care, and long-term outcomes of COVID. These research projects employ a health services research framework and typically include use of both quantitative and qualitative methods. Current projects are observational and future intervention projects are planned. The Seattle Epidemiologic Research and Information Center (ERIC), is hiring two full-time Research Assistants. The Research Assistants will support the Vietnam-Era Twin (VET) Registry and the National Vietnam Veterans Longitudinal Study (NVVLS) Registry, collectively named the Vietnam-Era Registries.
The VET Registry is a collection of data from over 14,000 Vietnam-era Veteran twins and more than 3,400 selected family members. That data comes from more than 30 studies and includes biospecimens from over 1,800 individuals, and is used in research studies to understand factors that affect the health and well-being of Veterans.
The NVVLS Registry is a collection of data from over 2,300 Vietnam-Era Veterans, obtained over two data collection timepoints: the National Vietnam Veterans Readjustment Study (NVVRS) in 1984 and the National Vietnam Veterans Longitudinal Study (NVVLS) in 2012. The Seattle ERIC acquired stewardship of the NVVRS and NVVLS data in 2015, and modified it to function as the NVVLS Registry, which includes 1,450 Veterans who participated in both timepoints.

The Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP) and Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center (MIRECC) at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System are seeking a full-time Study Coordinator (GS7) for two projects related to behavioral sleep medicine and implementation science. Project one is a four-site implementation trial testing strategies to enhance and promote the delivery of a brief behavioral treatment for insomnia (BBTI) within Primary Care Mental Health Integration clinics. Project two is a pilot study testing an intervention combining sleep medication reduction, by a Clinical Pharmacist, and a digital sleep health platform that delivers cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBTI).
This position will be based at the University Drive/Oakland campus in Pittsburgh with the opportunity for working remotely. The Study Coordinator will be responsible for providing administrative support for the day-to-day operations of the projects, including managing scheduling and communication with a team of investigators and operational partners, planning and preparing materials for project meetings, maintaining regulatory documents, and contributing to the development of tabular and graphical representations of data and project products (e.g., posters, reports, manuscripts). Specific research activities will include scheduling participants and conducting informed consent and other assessments/measures; literature reviews; synthesizing information from literature and study data; conducting manual chart review of medical records data; qualitative data collection and coding; and organizing data for analysis.
Prior clinical research experience strongly preferred. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in sleep health, mental health, implementation science, and qualitative methods. This position requires competency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel in particular), excellent organizational skills, effective communication with Veterans and VA investigators/providers/staff, attention to detail, and reliability.

The Department of Learning Health Sciences (DLHS) at the University of Michigan (U-M) Medical School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is seeking a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with expertise in implementation science, including knowledge translation, or improvement science (quality improvement). The Stanford University School of Medicine is seeking an MD, PhD or MD/PhD to fill a leadership position as director for the joint health services research program with the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Health Care System, The Center of Innovation and Implementation. The new director should be an accomplished health services researcher to fill a position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Medical Center Line or the University Tenure Line. The position entails a combination of research and program administration in a relevant field with advanced research training. The Center was established in 1985 and aims to develop and evaluate organizational innovations to improve the health care for all Veterans. Activities emphasize ensuring that the highest levels of scientific standards and established research policies and practices are applied to all MVP activities. Additional emphases involve effectively and efficiently administering MVP activities and promoting a collaborative spirit within a study and the national program. Responsibilities include: designing and directing all aspects of MVP recruitment, enrollment, and follow-up activities; understanding and adhering to federal, agency, and program regulations and policies; developing strategies, plans, and priorities for MVP; and management and leadership of MVP Coordinating Center staff. S/he shares a collegial, collaborative, and fully informed relationship with the MVP Director, the MVP PI, VA ORD.
In coordination with the MVP Director, the incumbent assists in analyzing the needs, strategic plans, and goals of MVP in the context of VA, VHA, and ORD goals and initiatives, and makes recommendations for new directions, initiatives, policies and procedures. S/he participates routinely in senior management and policy decisions regarding strategic planning, priority-setting, scientific direction, and operations. Cooperative Studies Program (CSP) is recruiting for a Project Manager at one of their Clinical Trials Coordinating Centers. This position will be located at the VA Medical Center in Hines, Illinois (in the Chicagoland area). CSP is a Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Office of Research & Development (ORD) supported national clinical investigation program that is comprised of a network of centers and investigators. The program is responsible for the planning and conduct of large, multi-center trials in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
The Project Manager is responsible for providing administrative support and coordination for studies that vary in length of time, number of participating sites and number of research subjects for the Hines Cooperative Studies Program Coordinating Center (CSPCC). They coordinate interaction and cooperation between the research study site investigators, site coordinators, the CSPCC, the Study Chairpersons, the Albuquerque Research Pharmacy (CSPCRPCC), any outside funding agencies and any technical support facilities required for the studies.
The incumbent will serve as a resource person regarding details of the study protocol and facilitates training for study personnel to ensure they follow the study protocol and data collection procedures. They assist in the development and distribution of the study operations manual and draft study correspondence and ensure that appropriate tasks and study documentation are completed in the sequence established by CSP. The Project Manager prepares agendas and materials for study meetings in consultation with study team and participates in study conference calls and attends study meetings. They serve as a recorder of minutes and prepares draft reports of meetings, when needed. The incumbent serves as primary liaison with all participating study sites in securing both initial and yearly approvals from Institutional Review Board of record and Research & Development Committees. They maintain documentation of the Study Group, Executive Committee, Data Monitoring Committee and HRC reports. The PM reviews all budget requests for accuracy and evaluates special requests for budgetary increases, makes recommendations and monitor’s expenditures of study funds to ensure the study is within budget. The Project Manager receives and manages the distribution of the site monitoring reports and site audit responses to sites, CSP offices, Study Chairpersons, and any necessary outside agencies and assists in the quality assurance process for assigned studies and responsible for maintenance of the study Central Study File per GCP requirements.
