University of Colorado - May 27, 2020
The University of Colorado has taken steps to meet student mental health and training needs.  The school activated a campus-wide student volunteer database to match health sciences students with community volunteers to support individual needs. This was done as an interprofessional effort under the leadership of the Student Services Vice Chancellor. In addition, an interdisciplinary COVID-19 elective course was created by School of Medicine faculty and graduating students and was shared with both the Nursing and PA programs for replication. Finally, graduating undergraduate nursing students worked with Dr. Scott Harpin, the point person for the State of Colorado Emergency Operations Center, to receive just-in-time training in disaster response in Tier 3 facilities. The curriculum developed for this program serves as the template for training for all state-supported Aged Care Facilities (ACFs) across Colorado. The center now has a handful of nursing alumni serving as “master trainers” who will be deployed to lead the staff training for ACFs.

University of Minnesota - April 28, 2020
The School of Nursing found a creative way to show support and connection to their 2020 graduates who will not have the traditional commencement experience. Students are using FlipGrid to create videos on their thoughts, journey, and goodbye. Videos are then shared on a discussion board so their memories and messages are captured and shared.  Read more here, including some sample graduate videos (used with permission).

Select Accelerated BSN students are working within their local health department conducting screenings at two drive-up COVID-19 clinics. NAU has an additional two students working with an NP at a local homeless shelter doing screenings and assisting as needed to care for the homeless population. There are currently 14 students who are completing their clinical hours at Kingman Regional Medical Center (KRMC).
