Overview

A partner for a better future

Our commitment to environmental and social quality begins with a focus on students, employees and the communities we serve, and is rooted in our institutional mission of making a difference by serving others and maximizing the potential for a better life.

Our institutions were built on the principles of quality, affordability, inclusiveness, accessibility and relevance—and those core strengths will take us confidently into the future. At a time when the cost of education is out of reach for many, our unique value proposition enables APEI to make education more widely available to adult learners who seek education and training to achieve their goals.

APEI built its reputation on serving the military, veteran and public service communities. Today, we also serve nurses, healthcare professionals and everyday heroes in a variety of fields. Our mission is to drive down the cost of higher education and help students of all backgrounds maximize the return on their investment in education. HEROI—Higher Education Return on Investment—is a conceptual framework for understanding our mission. Our success starts with an unwavering commitment to high-quality, relevant education at an affordable cost.

We take the lead when it comes to expanding educational opportunities for adult learners. In a 2019 Georgetown University study of 4,500 institutions, APUS ranked in the top 2% overall (#95 nationally) for 20-year return on educational investment or net present value.1

We have a long history of prioritizing community engagement and environmental stewardship. Since our earliest days, APUS has proudly supported Wreaths Across America—just one example of our steadfast and passionate support of many Military and Veteran organizations. In October 2009, APUS began constructing a new, energy-efficient academic center on an abandoned downtown property in an EPA targeted revitalization corridor. This building earned LEED-Gold certification by US Green Building Council (USGBC). In 2019, our employees formed the Environmental and Social Quality Committee, which reports to the CEO and is chaired by executive leadership. The committee’s mission is to articulate our policies and principles related to environmental and social issues, as well as to set a course for the future and to track our progress going forward.
