What is Sail?
Sail is a CLI (command-line interface) utility to provision, deploy and manage WordPress applications in the DigitalOcean cloud.
I am not a developer. Can I use Sail?
Yes, however some experience with CLI-based tools, such as Git, Npm, WP-CLI, etc. is highly recommended.
How much does it cost?
Sail is completely free and open source.
DigitalOcean pricing starts at $5/mo. Optional premium services available from $9/mo.
To put that into perspective: hosting 5 websites with a combined 300k monthly visits and 40 GB of uploads costs $175 per month on average with today's leading WordPress hosting providers. With Sail on DigitalOcean you could be paying only $9 per month.
Can I use Linode, Vultr, Amazon or Google Cloud with Sail?
Not at this time. It is on our radar though.
