Description

Widgetsmith lets you personalize your home screen like never before.

It starts with a wide collection of highly customizable widgets, which range in function from date, to weather, to astronomy. Each can be adjusted precisely to best fit your desired function and appearance.

This set of widgets can then be dynamically scheduled to appear on your home screen following rules you define. For example, a particular widget could show the weather first thing in the morning, then your calendar during your work day, then switch to your Activity ring progress as you wrap up your day. This lets you take full advantage of each slot on your home screen.

Activity widgets require a paired Apple Watch

The app itself also includes a wide collection of tools, such as a weather app, a timezone converter, a calendar. These tools can automatically launch based on the active widget tapped.

Artwork and theme

I really like this app, the option to customize your own widget is great. And with the new aesthetics and artwork, it makes my home screen look even better. I would recommend thought to have a way to where people can make their own aesthetic theme and have a way to share it with everyone else using the app. Also if there would be a way for users to create their own artwork, so there can be a way for people to share their creativity, and also nail the aesthetic on their Home Screen just how they want it. I think having customizable art work would be an awesome idea, and a great way for people to share their artistic talent and help others complete their Home Screen. Another thing is that all the widgets are awesome and I love the new artwork, but it’s hard because all of the best artwork is for a premium membership, and it’s a lot to pay for, just to have cool looking widgets. And I do t think many people will be desperate enough to to pay that much just to make their home screen and widgets be aesthetically pleasing. If there was a different way that people could use the Widgetsmith pro artwork and widgets such as, sharing the app with a certain number of people, or rating it on the AppStore and writing suggestions, that would be a way for people who don’t have the extra money to spend on these designs a way to nail their aesthetic.

I think it’s good but needs some work

It seems like people mostly download this app for customizable pictures in their widgets. But sometimes it will turn grey. Also, as soon as I got the new update for this app, it won’t let me add any new widgets. For example when my homepage is in jingle mode and I click the + to add a new widget, I try to look up Widgetsmith but now however, it’s not there! So it won’t let me add new widgets. Also my widgets I already had all turned grey and when I hold down the widget to click on “edit widget” it’s not there anymore! So I can’t even change it at all. Also before I got the update the last few widgets I added were all grey and I couldn’t get the picture I wanted. It’s a really good app and concept but I feel like it also needs to have directions on how to use it and edit widgets on the homepage to change widgets. Also it has bugs that need to be fixed. :( (by the way could you please make it so we can customize the widgets name so it doesn’t just say Widgetsmith?)

Developer Response ,

Thanks for your feedback! Unfortunately the grey boxes are a frustration to us too. Sometimes it means that the app can't find the widget you are showing (just make sure that you have selected a current one in the app). We are working to see if there's anything more we can fix on our end but it might just be an iOS14 issue as well. So sorry about that!

We have made a help video in the "Get Help" area of the app to help you understand how to customize and add widgets to your home screen - hopefully that is helpful too!

Thanks for your patience as we continue to work to improve the app!

Does the basics, but needs a few revisions

Overall, the app is good. I think it does its job well enough, but it’s very simple. I like the customizable nature of the app, my home screen looks a lot better since downloading it.
The only technical issue I have encountered is that my large widget for my reminders seems to glitch at random points and not list any of my scheduled items. This is not a constant issue, but it does happen every once in a while, as well as taking a while to update once I add a new reminder.
The only other complaints I have are a matter of further improving aesthetic and perhaps some future ideas, none of which are deal-breakers for me, but would improve my experience with the app. I don’t particularly like the battery widget as it shows only the battery and not the percentage, which seems almost useless to me, as I have the same symbol showing in the upper right corner of my screen at all times. I also wish that the widgets did not say widgetsmith underneath them (similar to how the name of an app shows under its icon), I would prefer they have no title/caption. My third wish is that the widgets could have customizable shortcuts, so that when I select them, I am taken to the app that corresponds to the widget, rather than simply opening the widgetsmith app.
Nonetheless, I recommend this app. It makes me happy to see my home screen much more organized and customized to my aesthetic. I much preferred this app to others similar to it.

Thanks for the feedback - it's always great to hear that Widgetsmith has made people enjoy their home screen aesthetic!

We are working on finding any other areas where we can improve on our end (and iOS14 keeps getting better too) so hopefully you'll have fewer glitches in the future - make sure to update the app as we ship updates!

Thanks too for your suggestions about the battery widget. Unfortunately (like we note in the FAQs) we can't remove the label (it's an iOS14 system requirement) and we can't incorporate shortcuts either (sorry about that!)

Dave the developer is doing what he can to creatively give you more and more features within the scope of new development options - stay tuned!
