Geography and Environmental Sciences

Geography is a science that focuses on the spatial analysis of human/physical patterns and processes. There are two main branches of geography: human geography and physical geography. Human geographers work in the fields of urban and regional planning, transportation, marketing, real estate, tourism, and international business. Physical geographers forecast the weather, manage land and water resources, and analyze and plan for forests, rangelands and wetlands. Environmental sciences is a multidisciplinary study of the natural/physical environment. Academic fields involved in environmental sciences include chemistry, biology and ecology, physics, geology, geography, anthropology, engineering, political science, law, economics and health sciences. The Geography and Environmental Sciences Department is dedicated to giving students an integrated science perspective of how human-environment interaction shapes the Earth. They provide five different specializations for undergraduate students with three options for minors. The department also provides two graduate programs as well as a variety of graduate and undergraduate certificates.
