Using the Alexa voice as the baseline for volume, quite a few podcasts and newscasts have a problem with their volume/loudness being too loud or too soft. This usually is addressed by audio engineering when creating the file, but it's obvious they aren't paying attention to this issue. It's annoying, disruptive, and even harmful to have one audio stream at a lower level and suddenly the next at a volume that blares. This is especially horrible with headphones.
You'd think the WSJ would have professional people on staff that would notice and correct this problem, but after Tweeting them about it, giving feedback on the Alexa app, and even calling Amazon to escalate the issue, it appears they're uninterested or unengaged. Charlie Turner's voice EQ is awful.. muted and often muffled... while Tanya Bustos' voice EQ is better but often soft as though she's recording a great distance from the mic.
Until there's a "loudness normalization" or "volume normalization" function in Alexa or available on Android to correct these inconsistencies, it's not worth my time to 'babysit' the volume using Alexa.
I've noticed that the volume - while not completely even/normalized - *is* better on GoogleAssistant when in playback.
