Help Me Choose: Memory

Memory — sometimes referred to as random access memory or RAM — is the temporary storehouse for data flowing to and from your PC's processor. The data stored in memory can be from specific files, such as documents or video clips or instructions from software applications to your processor.

All else being equal, a system with more memory can:

  • Deliver faster performance
  • Handle more open files at once
  • Open larger files
  • Work with more open applications at once

How many DIMMS?

DIMM stands for dual in-line memory module, the type of memory chip used in Dell Precision mobile workstations. To provide the utmost in configurability all Dell Precision workstations have four slots for memory DIMMs. Customers who want the best flexibility for future upgrades should populate two DIMM slots. If all four DIMM slots are populated at the time of purchase, some or all of the memory will have to be discarded to accommodate more memory.

Adding memory at the time of purchase can be more cost-effective and convenient than upgrading later.

If you want... Choose...
Extreme performance for large data sets 32GB* memory
Premiere performance capability 16GB* memory
Advanced performance capability 8GB* memory
Basic performance 4GB* memory
