Become a Peer Reviewer
HLC is now accepting applications for new peer reviewers. The deadline to apply is January 10, 2022. Applicants will receive decisions by March 1, 2022.
Training for new reviewers will take place in-person in the Chicago area in May 2022; training dates will be posted to HLC's Calendar as soon as they are available. If accepted, new reviewers must attend training in person, and if they cannot attend during the posted dates, they can attend the next available in-person training.
Due to current needs in the Peer Corps, a small number of new reviewers may be accepted and HLC is especially interested in candidates with the following expertise:
- Academic physicians and physician assistants
- Enrollment, finance, and student affairs administrators from doctoral institutions
HLC continues to strive for its peer reviewers to be representative of the backgrounds of students, faculty and staff at its member institutions and aims to increase the numbers of peer reviewers from the following groups to better reflect the ethnic and racial diversity within HLC’s member institutions:
- American Indian or Alaska Native
- Asian and Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander
- Black or African-American
- Hispanic or Latino

Benefits of Service
Peer reviewers are volunteers who generously share their time and expertise to help colleges and universities advance their quality. Peer reviewers evaluate member institutions for adherence to HLC’s Criteria for Accreditation and offer consultative feedback that contributes to the quality of an institution’s processes and academic offerings. For more information about the peer reviewer role, see the Peer Corps Member Position Description and responsibilities and expectations of service.
Serving as a peer reviewer is an engaging, immersive professional development opportunity that allows individuals to gain insight and knowledge from their colleagues in higher education. Peer Corps members also develop a comprehensive understanding of HLC’s accreditation requirements, which can help their home institution with the accreditation process.
