What is it?
Comment Spotlight allows you to easily highlight notable comments with icons or images. You might have one for particularly foolish or annoying comments, another for trolls, and one for particularly insightful statements. A “spotlight” can be anything you like. (See the first comments on this page for examples)
How do I use it?
You edit the comment you want to spotlight, and add a special HTML comment to the text (probably at the beginning). The plugin comes with two default spotlights — “bravo” and “dunce”. If I wanted to spotlight a comment I really like, I would give it a “bravo” by adding the following to the comment:
<!--bravo-->
Note that most commenters can not spotlight themselves. Only a person with comment-moderation capabilities can spotlight his own comment as it is written. (If Joe Commenter tries to spotlight himself, the tag is deleted before the comment posts.)
To set up new spotlights or edit existing ones, go to Settings -> Comment Spotlight in the WordPress Admin.
The spotlight images all have a class of “spotlight”, so if you like you can style it with CSS.
Installation
Download the file, unzip it, and put the comment-spotlight folder into your blog’s wp-content/plugins/ directory. Next activate it in the WordPress Plugins panel.

The two comments above are examples of this plugin in action. I really liked that first comment, so I edited the comment and added
<!--bravo-->to the beginning of it.The second was just idiotic and annoying, so I
<!--dunce-->ed it instead.Note that each image also has “alt” and “title” attributes. You’ll see the title text if you mouse over the image. (This text is standard to each Spotlight as defined in the config.)
Is this plugin up to date? I have wordpress version 2.5

Missy — It hasn’t been updated recently, but it still works with current versions of WordPress (now 2.6), as you can see the fact that the sample comments 1 and 2 are still marked. 🙂
Other than perhaps a cosmetic update to the Admin screen, it works fine.
Since somebody actually showed interest in this, I went ahead and updated it. Version 1.1 is up. 😉

If you downloaded 1.1 in the last couple days, there’s a fatal bug in that version that prevents comment posting unless you’re an admin (which is how it slipped past me….)
New version 1.1.1 fixes that bug. No other changes.
Does the plugin supports WordPress 4.7
I do keep WordPress updated on this site, so if you see the images in the above comments, you can assume it’s working! 🙂
