This company recycles anything that can be recycled, ie planned to strip recyclable metal elements from a convertible sofa. Part of their profit goes to CASA for children.

ALL SAFE MOVE INC

They were the slowest movers I've used. There were 3 men, the foreman did almost nothing. He mostly put my hanging clothes in boxes. He worked in slow motion. They wrapped everything up like crazy to kill time and use a huge excess of packing materials, even though I had already packed everything. They wrapped up my old moldy sofa and taped it like crazy. I moved my own dishes, TVs, hanging pictures, stereo system, and anything else delicate beforehand, and to save cost. They charged me for an hour extra, on top of the slowness. What should have taken an hour to load on the truck took 3 hours. I was not happy but just paid it.

I had a hard time deciding which company to use for this move and joined Angie's List just to get recommendations on who to trust with this valuable furniture. I had a very good experience with Transit Systems. My furniture was well taken care of and arrived in excellent condition. The truck drivers were pleasurable to work with at loading and unloading. The shipment took a little longer to get here than I expected, but I was not in a rush, so that was not an issue for me. The customer service people on the phone were very responsive, courteous and helpful. They seem to work with a number of small family owned businesses with which they have long relationships, so while shipments are consolidated, they aren't given out to totally random people.

AARON'S MOVING

It was very easy to schedule the move and they were careful with the actual moving. But I wasn't very happy with the packing or the removal of the blinds. They used furniture as step stools (e.g. my desk, my cherry dining room chairs) and just didn't seem to be very respectful of my things. They closed a laptop before stepping on the desk, which put it to sleep and it didn't come back without a reboot (a known issue - but they shouldn't have been messing with it).

The Sunshine Boys Moving & Storage Co
5.0
I hired sunshine boys at the last minute to help load a moving truck with all my household items. I had already packed everything into moving boxes and rented my own moving truck for a one-way move. They sent 3 gentlemen over who showed up early, and worked quickly and cheerfully. Any extra materials I didn't have (packing tape, cords for the truck) they brought with them and charged me a very reasonable amount for it. The gentleman on the phone also recommended that I rent furniture pads from the truck company. When the movers came, they wrapped all my wood furniture with the felt pads to protect it during the move. When they loaded the truck, their moving experience showed. They loaded the heavier items in first, and packed the truck efficiently enough that everything fit inside on the first try. If we had loaded it ourselves, we would've either packed and re-packed a few times or wound up renting a second truck to get everything to fit. I was charged by the hour for the labor and I thought it was a great deal with how fast they worked. I could have hired them to do a full service move if I hadn't called at the last minute.

Bay Area's Best Relocation Services

Very efficient, fast and polite people. They took very good care of my furnitures (wrapping blankets and tape and plastic wrap) and made it safe to my new place. They also did disassembling and reassembling of my queen bed and dining table. Prices were also great considering they even agreed to stop by somewhere to pick up a couch. If you want a stress-free move, I highly recommend hiring these guys. Thanks Naz and Carlos!

California Movers Local & Long Distance Moving Co.
5.0
This was the most seamless move that I’ve ever had. California Movers and their team work so efficiently and fast, they completed my move in under the amount of allotted time. They also were very careful and diligent with my furniture, making sure everything was wrapped and placed where we wanted it once we arrived. When I moved into my old apartment, the movers for some reason had a hard time getting the couch on the elevator, which caused it to rip along the back. California Movers and their team carefully wrapped my sofa and was able to get it on the elevator with no problem. I highly recommend California Movers.

All Reasons Moving & Storage

We had packed and moved all our smaller personal items already, so we hired them to move the heavy belongings we had and they did a great job of this. I wish they were a little less pushy when it came to getting everything done though, as they seemed to be in a little hurry when they first came in to move. That is OK though as all our belongings arrived at their destination safely, they were careful and helpful in getting us in our new home.

ALL SAFE MOVE INC
5.0
The movers showed up on time and were very professional. Signed a contract right away that listed the price per hour and miscellaneous fees for supplies and such. They do not charge a fuel surcharge like other companies but they do charge you 5% for using a credit card (which they quoted 3% over the phone). If you book your move in advance, be sure to get a copy of the contract sent to you before the move so that you can work out any discrepancies. The movers wrapped everything, including the mattress. We didn't have any breakages or damage. The move took about 6 hours. I did recommend these movers to a friend who was moving last minute within Mountain View, and she said that they sent a subcontracted company who were horrible. So be sure to request that All Safe movers move you and not a subcontractor.

ML Movers Inc.
5.0
These guys were true professionals and the move went great. I contacted the office manager Jackie about two weeks earlier about moving some large dining room furniture (table, chairs, china cabinet) as well as a grandfather clock from San Jose to Half Moon Bay, about 50 miles. I was interested in ML Movers because they received high reviews on both Angie's List and Yelp, and I was especially concerned as the items to be moved had been in the family for several decades and therefore had high sentimental value. The items to be moved were all very large and VERY heavy. Jackie assured me that ML Movers were professionals and that all of our furniture would be thoroughly protected during the move with all blankets, plastic wrap, and tape provided at no extra charge. She also told me they had experience moving grandfather clocks. (FYI, moving grandfather clocks safely is not a trivial matter as the weights, pendulum, and clock mechanism all require special handling BEFORE moving the clock. we opted to pay extra and have a clock repair specialist come to the house to properly prepare the grandfather clock for moving a few days BEFORE ML Movers were scheduled to move our stuff.) As this was a single room local move we opted for the hourly $95/ hr rate that included a truck, 2 movers, and all required materials... 4 hour minimum... With the driving time from San Jose to Half Moon Bay being charged at twice the normal hourly rate as required by state law. At first I thought the total cost was high to move a few pieces of furniture... Since I am used to getting free delivery when I buy new furniture... But after watching how hard the 2 movers from ML Movers work, I think we got a bargain! The team was scheduled to arrive in San Jose between 2:30 and 3:30 PM, but arrived an hour early at 1:30 PM. We were not quite ready for them as the china cabinet still had items inside it. We told Peter, the driver, that we needed 10 minutes to empty the cabinet. He told us not to worry as the hourly clock on our move would not start until we were ready. Once they started these two guys were awesome. Our first big scare was discovering that the very large dining room table was not able to be disassembled. A huge problem considering the table weight and the fact that the though the house in San Jose had double entry doors, the house in Half Moon Bay only had a single extra-wide entry door. We decided we had to go for it anyway. The team quickly wrapped every pieces of furniture in blankets, wrapping plastic, and tape. They used all packaging materials generously to thoroughly protect everything and quickly loaded everything in les than 1 1/2 hours. They then followed us on the drive to Half Moon Bay which took less than an hour. Upon arrival in Half Moon Bay I showed the team the dining table and china cabinet that needed to be moved our of the dining room to the garage before the San Jose furniture could be moved in. It should be noted that the Half Moon Bay house has a reverse floor plan so that the dining room is upstairs... Through the single-wide entry door and up a big wood staircase. The guys took it in stride and soon had the old furniture transferred to the garage on the new furniture safely installed in the upstairs dining room. We were so glad that large dining table from San Jose was able to be maneuvered through that door! I cannot say enough how careful these guys were with our furniture as well as with my precious wood floors. They worked very hard and had a great attitude. Those pieces of furniture were HEAVY and watching those guys struggle getting them up those stairs with no complaints was amazing. Not a single scratch on anything! ML Movers employs true professionals... And we're worth every penny they charged. We tipped the guys well... They deserved it. Great job. My ONLY negative comment has to do with the move insurance offered... Or lack of I should say. ML Movers only offered the basic 60 cents per pound insurance, which was covered in the hourly rate fee. Although we had very heavy furniture, this would never come close to covering the true cost of repair or replacement should something have been damaged. I almost did not use ML Movers because they did not offer me the option to purchase the more expensive replacement value or replacement cost insurance like other moving companies do. Based on the previous reviews on Angie's List I crossed my fingers that it wouldn't matter and went with ML Movers and had no problems... But I still wish they would have offered the higher insurance options.

Jay's Small Moves

My movers were Joe and Pepe. They were very professional. They called me from San Francisco prior to moving to inform me one of the chairs was broken at the joint, some I had not noted. The furniture has a very delicate lacquer finish. The packed every piece beautifully. Also the supervisor, Sean, was very professional in his telephone conversations with me.

We did all the packing. They were pretty good and they were efficient. One beige couch was scratched and there was a black mark on it. They didn't totally cover the furniture when they moved it. The price was reasonable.

NorthStar Moving Company

Fantastic! We had 3 movers and a truck. They moved quickly and efficiently. They brought us about 10 wardrobe boxes for free which made moving our clothes a breeze. It took them 3 1/2hrs. They will offer you a $15 discount if you leave them a review on Google. Happy to oblige! We also purchased an Angie's List voucher which made the final price of the move money well spent.

They quoted us competitively and had a 4 hour minimum. They called on their way to say they were stuck in traffic (with 15min left in 1 hour window)... they were there within next 30 minutes. The crew was awesome. 3 guys - just motored through what we had. Took care with fragile items. Asked lots of questions when they didn't know. Carefully wrapped leather couch and chair. Dionisio was incredibly professional and we would highly highly recommend them. They absolutely went above and beyond what we expected. Great company and great crew!

Moving Ahead Services

They packed the truck in an extremely unprofessional manner. The dining room chairs with webbed backing were packed at different angles on top of each other in a haphazard fashion. The legs of the chairs were up against the webbed backing of another chair and were pushing against one another. Because of this, the foot of one chair destroyed the wicker backing of another chair. Heavy boxes were placed on top of the fine dining room table. The legs could have been removed but they were not. A very heavy King size mattress was placed on the highest position and was pressing down on the boxes on the dining room table and the chairs also underneath. They placed the mattress, one of the largest and heaviest items, on top of the lighter items below instead of being packed vertically on the side of the truck. There were five pieces of English Bone China were broken despite being wrapped in moving paper and packed in a box that was labeled fine china and fragile. They are forty years old and will be difficult to replace. They packed a mahogany antique piece of furniture next to a piece of metal machinery, and it put a three inch gouge on the side of antique. There were large scratches 4 to 5 inches long on a piece of bedroom furniture and a piece of living room furniture. Many of the heavier pieces were not tied down with ropes probably and as a result moved during shipment and thus contributing to the damage of individual pieces in shipment.

Storage and Moving Center

The company gave an estimate over the phone. The only things to be moved were 2 beds 3 dressers a table a desk a couch entertainment center and a coffee table. He said this should take no longer than 2 hours and would be $350. 2 workers showed up. the time it takes to walk from the unit to the truck is 5 minutes. after 2 hours we checked on them and they didnt even have the truck packed. they were standing in the truck talking. When i went back in the unit one worker was taking to his friend on the cell phone. I alone made 10 trips to the truck when they made 3. The owner tried to charge us $800. We had to put a freeze on our credit card. They were completely inept and lazy. they intenionally took their time to make more money. They also prided themselves as a good Christian company. They are not. they are dishonest and no right taking advantage of people

Advantage Moving & Storage

I can't say enough about this company; they were just great during a very stressful time. They were helpful on the phone, Brian's estimate was the final price, the movers were nice and polite, my furniture and boxes were moved without damage, and the out-of-state delivery was just two weeks after my pick up. I did my own packing. After the movers left my house on pick-up day, I realized I had forgotten to give them a vanity stool. Chitra met me at their office the next day, when they were closed, and the stool made it safely with my other items.

Delancey Street Moving & Trucking
5.0
Delancey Street was great, arrived 20 minutes early and started work, started the official clock at the appointed time, provided a not to exceed quote of $910 up front. They packed the furniture up (tables, chairs, bed) very well with protective pads. They hand packed about 20 paintings with glass frames. They moved a washer and dryer. They moved a large wine cooler. When we arrived, they positioned and unwrapped everything. No apparent damage to either house or to any furniture. At the end they totaled everything up and it was 1 hour more than the not-to-exceed estimate, but they only charged me the $910. Great movers, kind, considerate, intelligent. I'd use them again.

Jay's Small Moves
5.0
I talked to a few moving companies for estimates before selecting Jay's Small Moves. Jay quoted me a price and called out that the driving time was one way, which is different than other companies. This was a big consideration for me because most of the move time WAS driving from San Francisco to Santa Cruz. The day before the move, I expected a call early in the morning to confirm the move the next day. When I hadn't heard from them by 4pm, I gave them a call and left a message. They did return my call and confirmed the move. Day of the move, I get a call at 9am, which is their scheduled arrival time. They were in traffic and running a little late. No worries for me since the clock didn't start until they arrived. So, for my move, I got Jay, the owner himself. He told me he usually needs to stay in the office to schedule and do estimates. However, the guy originally schedule for my move had worked very late on a move the night before. So Jay was stepping in so the guy could take a later move. What a cool boss to do that! Jay also mentioned he likes to meet the clients and he misses doing the moving from time to time. His helper Frederico helped un-assemble my bed minimally because he figured out that the bed could be moved out of my bedroom without being completely disassembled with a blanket and some pivets. That was Awesome because that saved time of assembly on the Santa Cruz side and money! Loading up my things, including the bed, was pretty straight forward. When the truck arrived, they pulled up my driveway and then came to look around. One omission on my side was that there is cobblestones walkway, which made it tough for even footing for them. But they worked around it when they could. Federico helped move out my old bed and move in the new one. It caused a bit of assembly problems because I took it partially apart initially and then he was trying to figure out how to put it back together. In hindsight, I should have left the bed as is and had them un-assemble it so they would know how to put it back together. So the 3 of us worked on the bed setup for a few minutes and there was a bit of rework. At the end, everything was brought in, no damage to anything and the move was actually a little less money that the phone quote. I had a great team from Jay's Small Moves and would use the company again for any future moves.

Plycon Transportation Group
1.0
Do not Use Plycon for Shipping! We recently purchased two handcrafted wooden Windsor chairs with a two tone distressed milk paint finish ($1,400 each) from a craftsman in New York State and had them shipped by Plycon to our home in Northern California. We paid a fee of $770 for the shipment including insurance and white glove delivery service, which includes unpacking the items from their shipping containers, placing the items in the home, and removing all packing materials. At delivery, we were informed that one of the chairs was broken (seat split). The other was ok, but we refused delivery since they were a matching set of chairs. Dealing with Plycon on this issue was a disaster from start to finish! Throughout the process, communication with Plycon was totally erratic, unreturned phone calls, no communication of delivery schedule, missed appointments etc. We were yelled at and lied to on multiple occasions when we questioned their behavior. Plycon insisted on taking care of the furniture repairs themselves rather using a professional restorer or the original chair maker, or filing an insurance claim for a new chair. The repairs were totally butchered and unprofessional. The two tone colors of the milk paint finish had not been matched and the distressed look was completed with what appeared to be silver spray paint. In fact, the spray paint also left drips on the seat and covered a few of the undamaged spindles in addition to patches on the seat. The redelivery of the chairs after repairs was particularly unprofessional. No photos of the restoration work were provided prior to redelivery as promised. We were not notified of the redelivery schedule. Instead they dropped off the crated chairs on our front doorstep when we were not home. They did not unpack the chairs for us so the we could examine and accept the repairs, and they did not remove the shipping materials (white glove service). Plycon later emailed a copy of the bill of lading that had a signature forged on the “accepted by” line. We found this BOL to be fraudulent and an unconscionable business practice. What they were in effect doing was stating that we had accepted the white glove delivery, and had approved the repaired condition of the delivered goods. Those facts were clearly untrue. At this point rather than continuing to deal with the shipper, we decided to cut our losses and make the repairs through a local furniture restorer a a cost of $500. As a final note, a Plycon agent suggested that I contact Bill Morgan director of operations in their NY office, but Mr. Morgan had no interest in working with us. After multiple attempts to contact him and leaving two detailed voicemail messages, we have not received any return calls. In retrospect, we should have read the many reviews of Plycon on the internet before we shipped with them. We advise any potential users of Plycon’s shipping services to read the numerous negative reviews first. Most of the reviewers have had similarly bad experiences with this company. From our standpoint, Plycon has a totally unconscionable business ethic. We will never use them again and advise everyone to avoid them at all costs.
