Presently Karbi language is officially written in Roman script in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts of Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. However, in Kamrup districts (South Kamrup, Kamrup metropolitan and East Kamrup) of Assam prefer mostly East nagari (Assamese) script. Karbi language has been developing since the time of British rule in India and since then Karbi language is being written in both East nagari and Roman scripts. The Karbi Lammet Amei earlier adopted East nagari to write Karbi language but later changed into Roman script. In a recent trend, a faction of Karbi people think that Karbi language should have its own script. Sarthe Teron Milik, who is from Rongphar village of East Kamrup district of Assam, has introduced a new series of Karbi alphabets and numerals in his book Arleng.[1][2][3][4]
