✅ Right now, we just successfully completed the first step: unfolding the forward sunshield pallet. Think of Webb’s pallets as a cake stand that will hold 5 layers of sunshield — the cake’s layers, if you will. 🍰 More about this step:

Our telescope is blooming like a flower in space! This marks the start of a major phase to : our sunshield deployment. First, what is our sunshield? 5️⃣ layers 🎾 Opens to the size of a tennis court 🛡️ Protects Webb’s optics from the Sun

Amazing that we can see / on its journey to the L2 point 1.5 million km away! Look for the two faint dots moving to the upper left near the center. One's JWST, the other is the upper stage Ariane rocket booster. (streaks are likely satellites)

60 hours after liftoff Webb’s second mid-course correction burn began. It lasted 9 minutes and 27 seconds and is now complete. This burn is 1 of 3 planned course corrections to put the telescope precisely in orbit around L2. (illustration 👇)

2/ After the largest & most important mid-course correction done 12.5 hours after launch, the team is currently analysing just how much more correction will be needed 📈, but the team already knows that ’s placement of Webb was better than requirements 👏
