Nearby Black Mold Inspection & Removal in San Francisco

I contacted this company the day before Christmas, two days after I discovered that I had black mold poisoning and moved out of my home. My initial contact was professional and courteous. They sent someone out to look at the mold problem the first week in January and assured me that they could deal with the problem the following week and that it would only take two or three days of work. What ensued was a nightmare. All total, it took the company 2 MONTHS to complete the work, during which time I had to remain out of my home. When I attempted to address the situation several times, I was treated very poorly. Each time another team was sent out to my home they never completed the work they were supposed to do. I had to continually call back and complain and get more people out to redo the job. This happened at least 5 times! They failed the independent test two times. The first time, the test guy wouldn't even DO the test because he could tell from the look and smell of things that the work was far from done. I could write pages about everything that happened. I finally talked to the supervisor and told him they needed to get their act together and get the work done in a satisfactory manner or I was going to fire them and hire someone else. At that point, he denied any responsibility on his part of the part of his workers, made excuses and EVEN blamed me for the problems! I decided to go to the top and spoke to the owner of the company. He took 3 days to return my call and then eventually agreed to give me a discount for the work. I spend over $4000 in rent and lost income in my home business...they really should have paid ME! I settled on the $1310 charges instead of the original $2100. I warn EVERYONE to not even consider working with this company! The independent tester even told me that they have seen this company's work before and they have had frequent problems with them. DO NOT use Alliance Environmental!

The minute the guy came into my house for the inspection he asked for a good review from me. I was a new mother at the time and wanted to make sure that I did not have black mold. I expressed to him that I was concerned and would like to find out as soon as possible if we did have a mold issue. He said that if I wanted an answer right away that I would have to go to my computer and give him a five star review. Then he could give me an immediate answer about if I had mold or not. He charged me for the lab fees and for the inspection. He then took some samples and said they would send them to the lab. They gave me an answer by letter saying that everything was fine and that there was no mold in my house. I hired a general contractor to come in and give a second opinion. The new contractor was very adamant about cutting a little hole in the sheet rock to make sure there was no mold behind it. There was black mold behind it. I ended up hiring the general contractor to treat for the mold. I did not reach out to this provider at the time because I was so busy. I just focused on getting the issue resolved. I feel like this was unprofessional and a waste of my money. It makes Angie's List look disreputable that the provider would ask for a review before the service was even done. I am very disappointed.

Ken Shearrer came out and inspected and cleaned out the area. Luckily what I was seeing wasn't black mold, but nevertheless I felt much better that a licensed professional inspected and thoroughly cleaned and removed everything that was potentially damaged. He was extremely professional and detail-oriented. I would without hesitation use their service again and recommend anyone that thinks they may have an issue with mold or other damages to use this service.

Overall everything went well. Because of the timing with a long weekend and their determination to let the wall dry out an extra day, it took a day longer to complete than we anticipated. However, it was well communicated and we were very pleased with the results and happy that they decided to completely ensure the wall was mold was resolved with the extra day.

Mike was professional, friendly, punctual and knowledgable about his trade. He responded the same day to our call and it was a Saturday. He explained each step he was doing so that we understood the whole process. We were never left wondering about what was happening or what the next step would be. We have a small child child with allergies and I was worried about being in the house while this was completed. Mike's standard of practice with containing the area kept the rest of out house clean and worry free. We would use his services again and highly recommend him to anyone looking to have restoration services completed.

As I explained above, I called the number for the San Francisco office to inquire about having a mold inspection done, and how much it would cost to have that done. I don't know who I talked to, except he was very knowledgeable and he said that in order to get an estimate, I would have to give him information about where the mold was, what type of mold I thought it was, and where I lived (since they also charged by mileage). When I explained that it was black mold on the under side of the deck, mainly on the support structure; he said that I didn't need their services. If the deck was in good shape, all I needed was a handyman (wearing a mask!) sand off a little of the deck. Mold will only penetrate wood by 1/64", so a little sanding, then seal off the boards, either with a stain or paint. Once you seal it, the mold won't come back. If you don't seal it, the mold will reappear within 5 years. I was very impressed that they turned down a job like that and took the time to explain to me what needs to be done, in detail. I think this is the first time I've ever had a vendor let me go without selling me something!
