Five Borough Futbol Club (Pick-up Soccer Games)

Quality, competitive pick-up games without the commitment of a weekly league.

This group is dedicated to elevating the beautiful game for the men and women of New York City. The level of play is intermediate and above, meaning that most of us played growing up and enjoy competing for bragging rights.

We believe in fair play, healthy competition, and inclusive community. We put on the best game in the city because we have the best people in the city.

Every player on the field has something positive to contribute to each game. We do not tolerate ego, unsafe play, negativity, and toxic behavior. Players with a negative impact on the game and on the community will be warned and then banned.

Bring a red shirt and a white shirt. Teams will be assigned before hand based on player skill level and may be adjusted during play to maintain balance. Balls will be provided. Absolutely no slide tackling or unsafe play. Turf shoes must be worn - no studs allowed. 48 hour cancellation notice for guaranteed refund.

Genuine Friends 50-70+ Long Island Ladies Group

Garden City, NY

Genuine Friends 50-70+ Long Island Ladies Group

You must attend a new member meetup to join the group. Join our waiting list and we will invite you to the next one.

Please be vaccinated to protect us all.

We plan a variety of fun events on LI and beyond - anything from eating to adventure. Do you remember when you were a kid and had friends you could always count on - a friendly face in a crowd of acquaintances? Well, that's what we are about. Genuine friendships with others whom you would love to have to your own home - a group of genuine friends.

Find people whom you are always happy to see - ones who share your interests and who won't cancel at the last minute or be a no show when they have something better to do. The age limits are just a suggestion - if you are a happy, active older person, this is for you too. Please be able to use a computer/android or iphone, and pay by Zelle.

Our events include brunches, book discussions, friendly chat, travel near and far, crafts, adventures, NYC, local theater, gardens, concerts, canasta, keeping fit, even star gazing or anything of interest to you and a few others. Most events take place in Nassau. This group is not suitable for those from mid to eastern Suffolk, Manhattan or Brooklyn.

Places will become available only as people leave the group or are inactive, or no shows at several events. I do remove inactive members on a regular basis to keep the group filled with only women interested in building real friendships. Please understand that not all membership requests are approved.

We do have admission standards. You are welcome to join if you are 50+, if you don't have a pattern of no shows with other groups, are free of drama, and if you can bring a smile to the our next meetup. If you are normal, sane, and secure, you'll get in! Please have a real, recognizable photo of your face when you join, and a valid email address. If you are a cat, puddle or flower, you won't get in. We want to be able to recognize you at an event, and greet you as a friend.

We do post pictures of group events on Meetup and Facebook, so when you join, you are agreeing to be photographed.

Join my other group: http://www.meetup.com/Travel-Friends-Near-and-Far/

Our annual dues are $20 per year collected annually (year ends on April 14), paid at your first meetup, or by Zelle. Renewals are $20, paid by April 14.

To maintain your membership, you must attend at least one event every two months.

Past Lives, Dreams, Soul Travel throughout New York

New York, NY

Past Lives, Dreams, Soul Travel throughout New York

Open to all those looking to find more wisdom, love, inner peace and spiritual freedom in their lives, through better understanding of dreams, past lives and the personal way the universe speaks to us daily. Move naturally and easily into higher areas of awareness and help life flow in a smoother and happier direction. One form of personal meditation we explore is known as a "Spiritual Exercise". This form of simple meditation, using your creative imagination, strengthens your inner guidance and helps you recognize your true identity as Soul, an eternal and divine spark of God.

Nothing needs to be taken on faith. Experience it yourself.

Have you had one of the following spiritual experiences? Come and share; learn more about connecting to direct guidance and achieving personal growth.

* Past-life recall or having a sense that you have lived before (in a meditation or dream)

* Dreams -- that opened awareness, expanded your consciousness, told of a future event, gave you an answer

* Out-of-body or near death experience * Seeing an inner light

* Hearing an inner sound

* Inner guidance (angel, spiritual master, departed loved one)

* Knowingness (intuition, coincidence, déjà vu)

* Unconditional love (from a family member, friend, pet, etc.)

* Sense of oneness, divine love

* Connection with all life -- greater awareness, feeling of inner peace

Creative techniques are discussed in these Meetups to further explore our inner worlds. Similar to meditation, yet more active, these contemplation techniques, such as singing the ancient love song to God, HU, (pronounced 'hue") helps with self improvement, brings self empowerment through greater inner understanding, opens consciousness, helps in understanding how karma is created, how to work through it, and gives guidance on how to achieve states of Self and God Realization.

HU, this ancient and sacred word for God, can be found in the Jewish Kabala, Christian Gregorian chant, Buddhism, the Sufi teachings, Chinese Taoism, as well as in the path of Eckankar. It is a universal word with a very high vibration. You are invited to try it anytime you would like, either out loud or silently to experience the effects for yourself. (www.hearHU.org)

We warmly welcome you to join us in our events and discussions that take place in all 5 boroughs, Westchester and Rockland – a common meeting ground for all who have had or would like to have a life-changing spiritual experience.

Our group is sponsored by Eckankar. Experience the Light and Sound of God. This ancient spiritual teaching offers spiritual techniques and resources for an individual to discover truth for themselves.

To learn more about Eckankar, go to www.Eckankar.org. You can find out about advanced study and the spiritual exercises of ECK.

L Train Brass Band

Brooklyn, NY

L Train Brass Band

L Train Brass Band is a modular collective of nearly 100 brass, reed, and percussion musicians. This nonprofit community organization is composed of diversely talented musicians who are genuinely excited by the opportunity to play anywhere and everywhere, covering a wide variety of music, from pop and hip-hop—to funk and traditional NOLA jazz—to eclectic original charts. LTBB embodies a music for life ethos by empowering busy adults to pick up an instrument and make music within a safe, structured environment that promotes creative self-expression and welcomes individuals from all musical backgrounds and walks of life.

The L Train Brass Band's membership includes both experienced musicians and adventurous amateur players looking for something new and exciting in their musical lives. While members should have basic music-reading proficiency, we're open to all levels so long as members attend rehearsals as regularly as they can.

Important Percussion Update

Thanks so much for your interest in joining the L Train Brass Band! Please note: the percussion section for the brass band is currently full. But never fear, drummers! We have a separate drumline group called 3rd Rail Drumline for interested percussionists (and non-percussion players, we take all skill levels including beginner!) If you are interested in joining 3rd Rail Drumline, Meetup announcements for this group begin with “🥁 3rd Rail Drumline...” If you have any questions, please feel free to contact [email protected].

Important Dues Update (effective April 14, 2021)

Mandatory member dues are “waived” until further notice. As member dues are a critical part of maintaining our collective, we are seeking voluntary contributions in the form of donations that will go directly towards our operations. Details on how to donate will be provided separately by email or Slack message. Voluntary donations are tax-deductible and are suggested to be $15 per 3-month quarter.

When regular dues resume, updated instructions on how to set up your dues payments will go out 30 days in advance and you’ll have an additional 30 days to make your first payment. The “resume date” will be based on COVID guidelines, vaccination statistics, and our budgetary needs. When dues resume, the amount will remain at the current rate of $5.95 per month.

Basic Membership Expectations During Dues Suspension

In addition to the Meetup group, all new members must join the LTBB Slack workspace to be considered “active” in lieu of paying dues. New members who have not joined the Slack workspace within 30 days of joining the Meetup group will be removed by the Meetup organizers.

While certainly not required or enforced, we warmly encourage all members to check in on Slack for updates, participate in conversations, and attend at least one (online or in-person) event per month if possible.

Important FAQs (See more new member details and FAQs here)

IS THE BAND STILL ACTIVE DURING THIS TIME OF SOCIAL DISTANCING?

As active as we can be, that’s for sure! We have scheduled online mass-gatherings via Zoom as well as virtual game nights, workshops, and random fun (such as learning to cook with our lead clarinetist).

WHAT INSTRUMENTS CAN PLAY IN THE BAND?

Our instrumentation is inspired by a mix of NOLA trad jazz and European brass band traditions, and specifically includes: clarinet, saxes (alto, tenor, & bari), trumpet, middle brass (F & Eb horns), trombone, baritone/euphonium, sousaphone, and percussion.

WHEN DO YOU MEET AND DO I NEED TO ATTEND EVERYTHING?

Under normal circumstances, our regular rehearsals are held every Sunday at noon, with gigs and events scattered over evenings and weekends. We suggest that you come to a minimum of two rehearsals a month to keep up with the repertoire, but you are not required to attend every event or rehearsal. NOTE: See "Basic Membership Expectations During Dues Suspension" above for more information on virtual attendance expectations during the pandemic.

DOES IT COST ANYTHING TO BE IN THE BAND?

After a 30-day free trial, our members pay mandatory dues, currently fixed at only $5.95 per month. NOTE: Mandatory dues are currently waived, please see above for “Important Dues Update” for details. Dues subsidize rehearsal space rent, parade fees, marketing materials, digital service fees, and more. 100% of members' dues contributions benefit the collective as a whole (no one receives a paycheck). Our dues minimize out of pocket expenses and keep our members showing up for each other.

New Jersey Divas Who Rock

Bloomfield, NJ

New Jersey Divas Who Rock

Hey Divas! Welcome to the New Jersey Divaz Who Rock group! This is a group for adult females of all ages who are interested in meeting new people who share common interests. I have realized that as an adult it is easy to lose touch with old friends and even harder to make new ones, so I hope this meetup can help make lasting friendships! I would like to get together at least once per month to socialize and have fun. Some of the events I am planning include dinner, drinks, dancing, bowling, hiking, movie nights, game nights, trips to NYC and more! Suggestions are always welcomed of course and if you are interested in becoming an event host please let me know!

We understand that circumstances occur. But we ask that if you have RSVPed for an event, and can no longer attend, that you update your RSVP. We want to keep the group open to like minded individuals who are here to meet new people and are open to creating longlisting friendships. Therefore we will be implementing strict rules in regards to "No shows". Which is someone who has RSVP multiple times and have not shown up or informed an organizer before hand.

SAFETY:
We want everyone to have a safe and pleasant experience while participating in our meetups/events. By joining the group or participating in anything that is posted, you and your guests are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being.

DRINKING AND DRIVING:

Getting drunk can come with repercussions far worse than feeling embarrassed. Please take the appropriate measures when it comes to monitoring your drinking as alcohol affects everyone differently. If you notice someone's drinking has recurrently crossed the line from "moderate" or "social drinking" to "binge" or "problem drinking" - please inform the event host/organizers privately. Going out with crowds of people is fun and can often times lead people to drink more. Remember that alcohol does change people's actions and behaviors. Please make sure that while you are attending meetups/events... that you are representing yourself, as well as our group in a safe, positive, friendly, and respectful manner.
If there is someone in the group who has a problem with drinking and driving, please send me a private message. We need to take every measure to ensure that our get togethers are done in a safe manner. The responsibility of planning ahead on a social drinking night is YOUR obligation and no one else under any circumstance. Please always have a backup plan.
