WordPress.com has partnered with Google to make integrating Google Workspace (formerly known as G Suite) into your site as easy as possible. We offer the Google Workspace Business Starter plan. This guide will show you how to easily add this to your domain. If you already have an account with Google Workspace, use these steps to configure email, or find directions for other email providers on our main Add Email page.

Purchasing Google Workspace for a New Domain

To add a Google Workspace account when registering a new domain:

1. Go to My Site(s) → Upgrades → Domains. Choose Add a domain to this site.

2. On the next page, enter the domain you want to register. For more steps on completing a domain registration, see this support document.

3. You’ll then get the option to add a Google Workspace account to the domain. Enter the name of the account owner, and then the name of the email address.

4. Set a password for this account.

5. If you want to add another license, click on Add Another User, otherwise select Purchase Google Workspace.

6. Complete the checkout process for the domain by entering contact information. See these steps for more information on domain registrations.

7. Go back to My Site(s) → Upgrades → Domains and you should see a message letting you know you need to finish Google Workspace setup.

8. Select Finish Setup. In the next window, select whether you know your Google Workspace Password, or if you need one generated. If you need one generated, the next window will provide a temporary password that you can use.

9. After selecting either option, select Log In Into Google Admin.

10. Accept Google’s terms of service, change your password, then you’re good to go!

Alternatively: After signing up, you’ll receive an email to the email address on file for your WordPress.com account with instructions on how to log in and accept Google’s terms of service.

Purchasing Google Workspace for an Existing Domain

If you’ve previously bought a domain through WordPress.com or connected an external domain to WordPress.com, you can add Google Workspace by following these steps:

1. Go to My Site(s) → Upgrades → Emails and scroll down to the Google Workspace options.
2. Click on Add Google Workspace.
3. Enter the name and email address you’d like to use for the main account. Additional email addresses can be added by clicking “+ Add another user”. Once all email address has been entered, click Add Google Workspace.
   

4. You’ll be taken to checkout where you can complete your purchase.
5. Go back to My Site(s) → Upgrades → Domains and you should see a message letting you know you need to finish the Google Workspace setup.
6. Select Finish Setup. In the next window, select whether you know your Google Workspace Password, or if you need one generated. If you need one generated, the next window will provide a temporary password that you can use.
7. After selecting either option, select Log In Into Google Admin.
8. Accept Google’s terms of service, change your password, then you’re good to go!

Managing Google Workspace

Most management options for your Google Workspace account will be available through the Admin Console. To access the Admin console, log in at admin.google.com using your Google Workspace email address and password.

If you are already logged into your account, follow these steps to reach the Admin Console:

1. Click the dotted grid to the left of your username in the top right, then click More.
2. Click the Admin icon.

Here, you can control and configure Google Workspace services and features for your account. If you need help concerning the Admin console, Google has some documentation on that here.

While most of the things related to your Google Workspace account is managed on Google Workspace Admin console, if you want to cancel your Google Workspace subscription or add new users, you will need to do that on your WordPress.com account.

Adding New Users

To add a new user to your Google Workspace account:

1. Go to My Site(s) → Upgrades → Domains, then choose the domain you want to add more users to.
2. Click the Manage your email accounts link.
3. Click the Add New Users button.
4. Fill out the form with your new user’s info and click Continue.
5. You will be taken to your shopping cart to review your purchase. When you are ready, click the Pay button to confirm the purchase.
6. Shortly afterward, you will receive an email with the new user’s login information. Give this information to the new user so that they can log in and begin using Google Workspace.

Cost for Additional Google Workspace Licenses

If you have already purchased a Google Workspace account and you plan to add more users, the new users will be charged according to the time left until the renewal date for the first Google Workspace account email.

For example, if you purchased your first Google Workspace account on January 1, 2019 and pay $72 for the year, then, if you add a new user on September 1, 2019 the email will be added at a pro-rated price for the time between September 1, 2019 and January 1, 2020, which is 4 months.

So, you will only be charged $72÷12×4= $24 for the new user license.

From the next renewal date onward, all the Google Workspace emails will be renewed at the full price to keep the renewal date in sync.

Canceling Google Workspace

You can cancel your full Google Workspace subscription from Manage Purchases. This will cancel all licenses.

If you have multiple Google Workspace licenses and you want to cancel only one or some of them, you can log in to your Google Workspace Admin console and follow the instructions from Google for removing a Google Workspace user.

By cancelling your entire Google Workspace subscription on WordPress.com (i.e. all licenses), your Google Workspace account gets transferred to Google automatically. You will receive an email from Google with instructions on how to set up billing at their end.

If a Google Workspace subscription is canceled within 30 days of purchase, your account will remain in a trial period for those first 30 days. If you want to keep using your Google Workspace, you can set up billing with Google before the trial period ends.

If a Google Workspace subscription is canceled after 30 days, Google puts your Google Workspace account in a 30-day grace period. If you want to keep using your Google Workspace, you can set up billing with Google before the grace period ends. If you transfer your Google Workspace account to Google, you will lose the remaining period of your current billing plan with WordPress.com. We are not able to refund you for the remaining period. We can issue a refund for your Google Workspace purchase or renewal only when you cancel your Google Workspace account within 14 days of the purchase or renewal.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’m seeing: “Google Workspace has been removed from your cart, as you have an active subscription for that domain with another provider.”

Verify whether you – or any other user on your site or associated with your domain – have purchased a Google Workspace Account previously. If you’ve had a Google Workspace (formerly known as G Suite) account in the past or signed up for a free trial, contact Google support directly here.

If you are sure you’ve never had a Google Workspace account for this domain before, it’s possible that the previous owner of your domain did. (A domain may have had a different owner in the past.) If this is the case, submit the recovery form here.

Can I change the name of the email address that I’m using?
