I often get challenged by trolls, asking "if you're so focused on effective communication, why do you block people?" My answer is clear: it's because I am focused on effective communication that I block dismissives. Here's why.

Contrary to what many think, I don't spend my time talking to dismissives and my only helpful tip is this: don't bother, unless (a) you enjoy arguing and never getting anywhere or (b) there are other people listening who need to know there are solid answers to their objections.

Climate change books may not be on everyone's Christmas list, but I would highly recommend the uplifting "Saving Us" by Katharine Hayhoe. I saw Hayhoe give an open lecture at the LSE pre Covid: she delivered a brilliant blend of hope & realism.
