Description

Classic Widgets is an official plugin maintained by the WordPress team that restores the previous (“classic”) WordPress widgets settings screens. It will be supported and maintained until at least 2022, or as long as is necessary.

Once activated and when using a classic (non-block) theme, this plugin restores the previous widgets settings screens and disables the block editor from managing widgets. There is no other configuration, the classic widgets settings screens are enabled or disabled by either enabling or disabling this plugin.

Does this work with full site editing and block themes?

No, as a block themes relies on blocks. See Block themes article for more information.

I am not a fan of the block editor or any of the new features that irritate me. This keeps the Widgets the way they originally were. Sad this needs to be an extension like Classic Editor. Should just be a setting to switch on or off. Classic Editor, Classic Widgets and I am guessing what's to come is Classic Theme will all be permanent to me just to stay well away from that block editor I have 0 uses for.

100% fixes WordPress’s awful widgets interface

The new WordPress widgets interface is literally unusable: Parts disappear off the screen, images are shown at ridiculous sizes, and editing is impossible. This plugin fixes this, reverting to the previous easy and usable system. Thank you!

I had to change a photo in a widget, which would normally take 2 seconds, but with the new block editor, it took an hour and a half of extreme frustration and ruined the look of all of my widgets. I lost a very important one entirely. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this plugin. WordPress, please stop this block editor nonsense. It does not work, it is extremely frustrating, and is making me hate WordPress.
