Damages L-mount batteries
As others have noted, the sled’s plugs are too thick. This results in pulling out contacts from most L-mount batteries I tried. Especially the less expensive varieties available on Amazon. Takes a knife to scrape the stuck contacts from the plugs.

Yes, it covers the SD slot. But if you 1: start with a fresh card. 2: Large enough card. You'll do just fine. A little on the expensive side, but what isn't these days? SDXC cards? Not too expensive. Just pick-up a couple of L mount batteries and your good to go for the day.

Works well big improvement over 4 AA I would use 24 AA in a day of filming with this filmed 12 hour and sound guy never asked for batteries I was using two smaller battery you can use larger ones but did not need them.

We all know those types of field devices eat batteries like there is no tomorrow and this piece of adapter is here to solve our problems with having to be swapping 4 AA batteries like every so often during long shoots. Now we can get the job done with a little piece of mind, be sure to charge your battery well the night before.

It tore up my atomos NPF-770 batteries and almost tore up my DSTE. The system is build with bigger prongs which doesn’t fit batteries properly. I don’t know if it’s just mine or that’s how they built them. But honestly I can’t use it I just kept it there, waste of money I guess.

Good but little on the expensive side for a piece of plastic

I normally do not leave reviews, but unfortunately, this stopped working after one use. It is cheap and not well made and so it is no longer clipping on and thus it does not work. I will be reaching out to the company so they can send me a new one.

The media could not be loaded.
In short, the product does what you need by adding 2 L-series batteries for longer audio recording run times, but as it is the only option, your hands are tied with the price - which is steep for what you get. It's a basic plastic sled and although light, does not feel sturdy for long-term use. I would not be able to trust recording time with AA battery option stock with the MixPre-3 recorder (the MixPre-3 does come with a power cord but not applicable recording on set/location), so buying this sled was necessary for me. I'm glad I have the product but I cringed when clicking 'order' due to the price. 3 stars applied based on price and overall quality of the sled.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good option for increasing MixPre-3 battery powered audio recording use time, but over-priced.

3.0 out of 5 stars The most essential $100 piece of plastic you can buy...
Reviewed in Canada on February 22, 2022
I am basing my rating on cost for value, the item functions as it should, but $100 for an item that should be 1/4 the price or be included with the recorder. I would have happily paid more for a "kit" version with everything you need. Let's face it all companies are creating accessories that are money grabs... It is also known as taking advantage of your customers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tight contact pins
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 21, 2019
This battery sled is an essential with the Mixpre series. 4 AA batteries don't last long at all (1 to 2 hours). The MX-L Mount allowes 1 or 2 Li-ion L mount batteries to be used. The difference is huge. with 2 970 batteries I can go all day without changing batteries. Obviously, it's a very different kind of lump in the bag when it has such large batteries attached to it. I don't understand why such a simple piece of plastic and pins has to cost as much as this. It's not even very well engineered. The contact pins are much tighter in the holes of the batteries than the pins of my 722, and that's where I have to deduct a couple of stars, because on removing a battery the tight fit causes the metal tube contact of the battery to pull out instead of pulling the pin from the tube. That is obviously soon going to render the battery useless. I'm going to try to superglue the metal tubes into the batteries, but at this price for the unit, why should I be having this problem? I suppose I could try crushing the contact pin with pliers, but that seems drastic.

My photos show a pin of the MX-L mount battery sled (gold color) and a pin of the 722(nickel color).

Sound Devices gear is excellent. This battery mount just seems like a cheap knock off copy, by their standards.
