There are two Apple Pencil models.

Apple Pencil (1st generation) is compatible with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (1st and 2nd generation), 10.5-inch iPad Pro, 9.7-inch iPad Pro, iPad (6th, 7th, and 8th generation), iPad Air (3rd generation), and iPad mini (5th generation).

Apple Pencil (2nd generation) is compatible with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd and 4th generation), 11-inch iPad Pro (1st and 2nd generation), and iPad Air (4th generation).

Trade in your eligible iPad at an Apple Store or online, and we’ll give you an Apple Store Gift Card.² If your iPad doesn’t have trade-in value, we can recycle it responsibly for you for free.

There are two SIM options for connecting your WiFi + Cellular iPad model to a data plan: a physical SIM card or eSIM technology.* (Note: Wi-Fi iPad models cannot connect to cellular networks.)

Physical SIM card: All Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad models have a physical nano-SIM tray that will hold a carrier nano-SIM card (also called 4FF SIM card). Your iPad may have a carrier SIM card already installed if you purchased it from a carrier. If not, you can contact your carrier to obtain an appropriate card for your iPad. eSIM technology: Newer Wifi + Cellular iPad models include built-in eSIM technology that essentially acts as a digital SIM card. There are a few ways to activate an eSIM on your iPad, including downloading it right on the iPad itself, scanning a QR code, or using an app from a carrier. With eSIM, you can choose cellular data plans from select carriers in the U.S. and in more than 180 countries and regions around the world. If you accept the trade-in estimate in the store, we’ll give you instant credit toward a purchase or a gift card you can use anytime.
If you accept the trade-in estimate online when you purchase a new Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, we’ll arrange for you to send us your current device. Once we receive it, we’ll inspect it and verify its condition. If everything checks out, we’ll credit your original purchase method and send you any remaining balance on an Apple Store Gift Card by email.
If you choose to trade in your current device online for a gift card, we’ll also arrange for you to send it to us. When everything checks out, we’ll send you an Apple Store Gift Card by email.
Regardless of how you choose to trade in, if the condition of your device doesn’t match what you described, a new estimated trade-in value will be provided. You’ll have the option to either accept this revised quote or reject it. If you reject it, your device will be returned to you at no charge.

Yes, Apple Trade In is available on apple.com as well as in all our retail stores.

Generally it takes 2–3 weeks for online trade-in. But the sooner you send us your device, the sooner we can verify its condition and process your credit or gift card.
For recycling, you will receive an email with details on arranging a pick up of your device. This process generally takes about 1 week.
