I only give a C rating as I provided my credit card which was written down on paper instead of run electronically. 2 days later the card had been duplicated and was being used in Maryland. Could be coincidence but I don't believe in them. The service was good.

Advantage Air Mechanical

We had a fan problem in our attic, which prevented us from using our A/C. I just know that our house was super hot and the A/C was not working. I called three different companies. Advantage Air Mechanical quoted me the best price. One company was booked for 2 weeks and their price was high, so I called Advantage Air Mechanical. They said they would do a price match guarantee but they quoted me a better price. They sent someone the very next day, which was awesome because when it is 100 plus degrees outside the last thing you want to hear from the A/C guy is that they cannot come out for at least two weeks. They diagnose the problem, the fan wheel needed replacing. Just in time because it was going to be103! They were very professional on the phone, returned calls as promised, and their technicians were very polite and knowledgeable. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND Advantage Air Mechanical. If we had waited for the other companies, we would still be sweating it hot in a house with an average temperature of well-passed 100 degrees. The price was below their original estimate. I did not even have to ask for a price discount they just gave it to me. Bottom Line: Fast and friendly service. I give this company 5 stars out of 5. I will use them again. Thanks Advantage Air Mechanical!!!

Kent's Cooling & Heating

Kent arrived on time, performed the work necessary, and was very professional for a reasonable charge. It should be noted two different Cumming Heating and Cooling techs came out previously and could not find the problem, instead they just tried to sell me a $6,000 new system. I HIGHLY recommend Kent..

Desert Moon Heating and Cooling Co

The HVAC quit working during a typically hot Tucson summer weekend. I called the Home warranty folks, they sent out Desert Moon. The home warranty folks send out a different firm every time. This was my first experience with them. They're a small operation, but very professional. Tehy ID'd the problem (frozen coil) and got the HVAC working in short order. They discussed the ins and outs of HVAC repairs vs the home warranty as well as discussed options for HVAC system replacement.

ACS Air Conditioning Services

In December of 2014, during a rainy day, our a/c unit started up on its own and started to smoke. The breaker to the unit tripped and from the smell there had obviously been and electrical fire in the unit. We called an Angie's List A-rated HVAC repair company that shall remain NAMELESS to check out our unit. The technician opened the unit and stated that he could find nothing wrong with the unit - perhaps it was an intermittent short in the control board. He went on to say that the refrigerant in the unit was low and recommended a leak check. Once the leak was found we could expect to spend as much as $4,000 to repair the aging unit. Since the units were old it might be best to replace the a/c unit. And since the air handler requirements would be different, we should probably replace the furnace also. With dual zone a/c this could end up costing us $20,000+! I paid them $89 for the visit and scheduled a visit by one of their HVAC experts to present us with replacement options. After some thought, I decided to get a second opinion from a company that was a Trane dealer, which the previous repair company was not. Enter ACS Air Conditioning Services ? We told the technician about what happened with our unit and he said he thought he knew what the problem was. Within a few minutes he found the problem! The compressor crankcase heater had shorted out and set the compressor blanket on fire. The damage was very apparent. He ordered the parts and installed them on a follow up visit. Total cost for parts, two visits, and labor $506.69. And by the way the refrigerant check revealed the the unit appeared to be properly charged. Needless to say we canceled the appointment for replacement options from the other company. And when it is time to replace our aging a/c units we will definitely be talking with ACS Air Conditioning and not NAMELESS.

Choice Air Conditioning & Heating

We call them in to do an inspection of the HVAC system on May 15th, 2013 on a home we put an offer on. This was part of our "inspection" period and Choice knew this, meaning work needed to be done in a timely manner. They did return an invoice the next day to get payment with a report, but the report did not contain a quote for costs of repairs, nor a cost per line item breakdown which we needed in order to enter into negotiations for buying the home. We asked them for this on May 17th. We did not hear from them until May 29th, which was WELL past our inspection period, therefore completely useless to us in our home buying negotiations. In addition, they still did not give us a repair quote. They again went silent until June 10th (and by this time we had already signed on the house, without any negotiating power regarding HVAC repairs because we didn't have a costs to give the seller) at which time they called to say we actually just needed to replace the whole AC system! We are entirely upset about this. Had they known that a MONTH ago, we could have included that in our repairs to the seller in buying this home. Choice was well aware we hired them to do an inspection for a home buy, and there is no excuse for their lack of communication and unprofessionalism regarding how this unfolded. Choice withholding knowledge and their utterly poor communication will end up costing us hundreds more now that we are told much too late that we need a new system. We emailed them regarding this outrage, and now they are backtracking and saying, "Oh, we didn't actually mean you have to replace the whole unit" even though we have these EXACT words on the voice message they wrote. Needless to say, it is now June 21st and they STILL have not given us a quote on the repairs they initially mentioned over a month ago.

The repair tech experience was fine. He answered my questions, and although I was disappointed to pay $89 for him to just look at things and tell me the thing was doomed, that's the way it goes. He also said they would credit that toward the cost of a new furnace, should I get one from them. So I scheduled an appointment with their sales person. This was a young guy who did not know what he was doing (and also arrived late). He was slick, polite, and wore shoe protectors but didn't do his job very well. He told me that the intake vent was too small, and made specific suggestions on how I should cut the furnace closet door and add another vent. Had I followed his instructions, I'd have started mixing return air with combustion air and probably poisoning myself with CO. Fortunately, I knew better and got second opinions. He confirmed that he'd given me dangerously wrong information in a phone conversation the next day, after I'd done a bunch of research and sent him email asking him about it. He also said due to new city codes, they would have to move my hot water heater outside, and repipe everything. He could not cite the actual codes, and I could not find what he was talking about in the city records. They wanted to charge me $2,600 for a new gas furnace (the cheapest option possible for a 1,040-square-foot-home) plus another $2,500 for a hot water heater, moved outside. I said I couldn't afford all that, and agreed to the furnace install only. All this talking took about three hours, and they had another young, slick guy show up to give me the hot water heater quote. Both of them had to call their dads to get information, and neither really seemed to know what he was doing. They took some measurements, then left after charging $1,266.82 to my credit card, a down payment of half the price of the furnace installation. We scheduled the installation for first thing Monday morning, and I cleared my morning for it. Monday morning, I did not hear from anyone for hours, until I called the sales guy to see what was going on. He said that he did not know what was going on, and that he'd call the installer and get back to me. The installer called and told me that they could not install the furnace without also moving the hot water heater, because the whole closet would not be up to code. I pressed him for details about that, and he gave me a story that seemed like a runaround and lacked any specific facts. I think they just wanted the easiest way forward while making the most profit. I've had three other contractors since then — all of whom must comply with city codes, and all of whom must get permits and inspections for installations around new hot water heaters — tell me that this story about the need to move my heater outside is a lot of bunk. Anyway, Intelligent Design refused to do just the furnace, and after leaving me hanging all morning and only telling me this when I called them after waiting around for hours, the installer said he would refund the payment I'd made to my credit card right away. A week later, I noticed that no payment had been returned to my card, so I called their office. They said that a check would be sent out Friday (last Friday, nearly a week ago). No one ever told me that they'd keep the charge on my card and send a check to refund my money until now. So now they've kept my money, sitting on my credit card balance, for more than two weeks, and still have not returned my money for the job they refused to do. I called just now, and when I threatened to file a dispute of the charge with my credit card bank, I was told that the check just went out in today's mail. Since then I've received quotes for both the furnace and the hot water heater for more than $1,000 less each than they were asking. This seems to be the most expensive game in town, by magnitudes. If they'll even do the job. I cannot believe this company has received so many great reviews. Maybe they used to do much better, and things have turned. I don't know, but this has undermined my trust in Angie's List a bit. This is the worst service experience I've ever had around my home.
