Comparison of variants of concern of SARS-CoV-2 November 2021
At end of November 2021, a new variant of concern (VoC) of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) raised concern due to its specific characteristics. It was detected for the first time in South Africa and has spread at least to 10 countries and territories so far. The variant is called 'Omicron' (lineage B.1.1.529) and has more than 30 spike protein mutations. These mutations are especially under investigation because they could lead to an increased transmissibility and make the virus potentially capable of evading vaccine-mediated immunity.

The first variant of concern was called B.1.1.7 (today: Alpha) and was first detected in the United Kingdom in December 2020. In the meantime there had been verified appearances in nearly 200 countries and territories, as of November 2021. For the first time, the main problem with this variant was its increased transmissibility which was first estimated at 40-50 percent.

Number of COVID-19 Omicron variant cases in Europe as of November 2021
In late-November 2021, the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus which causes COVID-19) was designated as a variant of concern by the World Health Organization due to fears about a higher transmissibility from the variant and a possible decrease in the effectiveness of vaccines against it. The Omicron variant has been detected in multiple countries since the discovery, and as of November 29, 2021, 63 cases have been detected in Europe with 18 of these in the United Kingdom.

Countries with the fastest average mobile internet speed 2021
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and South Korea boast some of the fastest average mobile internet connections in the world, with each of these countries registering average speeds in excess of 200 Mbps as of October 2021. UAE was the fastest, with an average connection speed of 273.87 Mbps, considerably higher than the runner-up South Korea, which registered average mobile connection speeds of 214.47 Mbps.

Fixed-connection speeds around the world When it comes to fixed broadband connections, Monaco tops the list of countries by average connection speed. Internet users in Monaco achieve an average fixed broadband connection speed of 270.25 Mbps, slightly faster than the 260.35 Mbps achieved in Hong Kong, the second-placed country on the speed rankings.

5G and 6G – the future of mobile broadband In countries where it is in use, 5G is already bringing faster mobile internet connection speeds than ever before. In Saudi Arabia for example, the average 4G connection speed sits at 28.9 Mbps, and this speed jumps to 414.2 Mbps on a 5G connection.
Now that 5G is commercially available, researchers have already turned their attention to 6G. Operating at a higher spectrum band, 6G will allow connections several times faster than 5G. User experienced data rates of 5G sit at 100 Mbps, and this speed is expected to climb to 1,000 Mbps. Not only faster, 6G will enable more devices to connect to a network without causing congestion, with a connection density ten times greater than that of 5G.

By 2050, internal climate migrants may account for more than six percent of the population in North Africa and roughly 3.5 percent of the population of Sub-Saharan Africa. This is based on a pessimistic scenario of high greenhouse gases emissions and unequal development. Across the six regions studied, over 2.3 percent of the population is projected to be displaced by the middle of the century, a result of shifts in water availability, crop productivity, and sea level rise.

In 2021, the per capita volume consumption of energy drinks in the United States was the highest worldwide, at an average of 29 liters per person. This was followed by the United Kingdom, Japan, and Spain with 13, 11, and ten liters respectively. In Russia, the average per capita consumption of energy drinks lay at around one third of a liter in comparison.
